Parliamentary Election in Afghanistan - Democracy without Political Parties?

For Afghanistan the year 2010 is the bloodiest year since the Taliban regime was expelled from power. In spite of the eroding security situation Afghanistan have elected a new parliament on September 18, 2010. For this reason, the KAS and the NCPR have carried out a survey. Peace Studies Department at the National Centre for Policy Research

In summer 2008 the National Centre for Policy Research (NCPR) established in collaboration with Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) and Deutscher Entwicklungsdienst (DED) the department for Peace Studies in addition to its departments of Law and Politics, Economy and Social Sciences at Kabul University. Training Program for Students

The National Centre for Policy Research (NCPR), a partner of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung has conducted the fifth German-Afghan Research Forum. The Training Program was held for 46 Students of different faculties of the University of Kabzul from 25th of April to 5th of June 2010. The course was designed for 26 lecture days from from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM to familiarize the students with the methods of research as well as SPSS (Statistics Program for Social Sciences).

Support for Uruzgan

The National Centre for Policy Research (NCPR), a partner of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung implemented in cooperation with the GTZ IS another Capacity Building Seminar for 14 Governmental Staffers of the Province of Uruzgan on “Good Governance: Public Administration” from 17th to 21st of April 2010.

Parliamentary Elections in Afghanistan

The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung and its partner the National Centre for Policy Research (NCPR), held several seminars to introduce a handbook on “Elections in Afghanistan”. These seminars were conducted in Herat from 3rd -5th, Kapisa on 7th, Balkh on 10th, Samangan on 11th and Bamyan on 17th of April 2010. Approximately, 350 participants were briefed on the details of the handbook and 1,500 copies have been distributed.

Strengthening the district levels

The National Centre for Policy Research (NCPR), a partner of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, launched a short-term training program for 10 days. Topics which have been taught were Management, Working Skills and Accounting. The seminar was held from 4th -14th of April 2010 for altogether 17 government officers of the Province of Uruszgan. The project was funded by GTZ IS and the Government of the Netherlands.

Academic Partnering at the University of Kabul

The National Centre for Policy Research (NCPR),a Partner of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung has held a Monograph Writing and Seminar Presentation Training Program for students of several faculties of the Kabul University. The program intended to train the students in writing their monographs in light of new research methods for 10 days in April 2010.

A Handbook for Afghan Elections

The intention of this handbook aims to increase the general knowledge of the electoral process in Afghanistan. One can learn about the basic rights, roles and responsibilities of citizenship within a representative democracy. It provides information particular relevant not only for broad public and potential and actual candidates, but also for journalists and also government officials.
