Young Kabul Art 2007

Das Projekt „Discovering Democracy – Young Kabul Art 2007“ unterstützt die afghanische Kunstszene, da Afghanistan gerade einen erheblichen gesellschaftlichen Wandel erlebt und Künstler Akteure dieses Wandels sind und zwischen den sich verändernden sozialen Welten vermitteln können. Die Kunstgegenstände konzentrieren sich allesamt mit dem Fokus auf die afghanische Demokratie als Arbeitsthema und wurden am 15.03.2007 im Serena Hotel in Kabul ausgestellt.

KAS-Partner NCPR presents its research projects for 2007

The Catalogue of Studies has been designed as a consultation tool to allow input into the final choice of research by those involved in research and policy-making. It contains three lists of 30 research topics. These lists have been designed as questionnaires, allowing consulting organizations and individuals the opportunity to rate each topic in accordance with the degree of priority they attach to it. Rating is done on a scale of 1-10, with 1 denoting highest priority, and 10 the lowest.

What happens in the Afghan Parliament?

The KAS's Parliamentary Bulletin covers on a monthly base issues discussed in the Afghan Parliament. Additionally, chosen Members of Parliament make a contribution to the bulletin on issues discussed in the previous month. MP Dr. Kabir Ranjbar (Democratic Party of Afghanistan) will write the first guest article in February. The bulletin will be published both in English and Dari or Pashto.

The Burning Wall

On Monday, the 25th of September 2006, the KAS invited pupils of the Durrani and the Amani school to a movie-afternoon about the former DDR and the fall of the Berlin Wall to the foundation’s office. The pupils watched the decorated movie “The Burning Wall”. Afterwards a discussion followed among the pupils about this chapter in German history. The KAS is going to organize more movie-afternoons about historic and political topics in the future.

Handing-out of certificates after successful journalistic training

In the KAS scholarship-program „Media Offspring“ 12 young Afghan journalists were trained by experts of the “Deutsche Welle” (DW) at the public broadcasting company “Radio and Television Afghanistan” (RTA) for six months. Now, 11 scholarship-holders have completed their training successfully. On September 25th 2006 the journalists ceremonially received their certificates handed-over by Dr. Khalatbari and the DW-Projectmanager, Michael Tecklenburg.

KAS provides discussion forum for leading Afghan politicians

Already during the Taliban regime – then undercover - and even stronger after its end in late 2001 a wide range of new political parties were established in Afghanistan. The KAS-Kabul together with the Afghanistan expert Thomas Ruttig invited 15 Members of Parliament and Party leaders to a several days workshop. More information about this interesting discussion which was broadcasted by the Afghan public media can be found under events.

KAS supports Pupils magazines in Afghan provinces

Altogether 14 pupils from Kunduz and Takhar took part in the workshop in Taloqan, among them six girls. The workshop was held between the 17th and 19th September 2006 in the „Afghanistane Emroz“ office. Basic journalistic methods, “news” and “interviews”, were the central topics. The workshop was part of a whole series called “Media Offspring” which the KAS organizes in cooperation with the Mediothek for future journalists.

Ambassador Mahmud becomes the patron of the KAS Internship-program

Hamed Mahmud, former ambassador, becomes the patron for the "Hindukusch InterExchange Research" program (HIER). Mr. Mahmud had been decorated with the German “Bundesverdienstkreuz” by the German President Lübke for his commitment concerning the Afghan-German relations. On August 31st 2006, he presented the program to interested students, pupils and the media. The aim of HIER is to strengthen the academic ties between Afghanistan and Germany.
