Belarusian Christian Democracy is denied registration once again
On 14 February the Belarusian justice ministry denied registration to Belarusian Christian Democracy (BCD). BCD held its last founding conference in Minsk on 17 December 2011 and applied for registration on 20 December. This was the fourth attempt to register the party. The first one was in 2009, two more attempts were undertaken in 2010. In all three cases the justice ministry denied registration, and all party’s attempts to litigate this decision in the Supreme Court were unsuccessful.

Dr. Vitali Silitski (1972-2011)
Belarus Country Office of Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung is saddened by the loss of Dr. Vitali Silitski, the nominated Belarusian researcher, Academic Director of the Belarusian Institute for Strategic Studies (BISS). BISS being a long-standing partner of KAS-Belarus, Dr. Silitski many times contributed as an expert to the Foundation’s projects. It is a grievous loss for the Belarusian independent analytical community. Our thoughts are with Dr.Silitski’s family, colleagues and friends now.

Ronald Pofalla meets Belarusian opposition in Vilnius
With his meeting in early May in Vilnius, Germany’s Federal Minister Ronald Pofalla reaffirmed his consistent position on supporting the democratic forces in Belarus. He stated to representatives of 2010’ presidential candidates, that he does not accept having no freedom; that by events of December 19 and afterwards Lukashenka has isolated himself and will stay in this isolation. Pofalla also met with European Humanities University students and journalists of Belarusian independent mass media.

CDU/CSU Position Paper
CDU/CSU parliamentary group condemns political repressions in Belarus
January 16, 2011, the Foreign Policy Working Group of the Christian Democratic Union/Christian Social Union (CDU/CSU) group in the German Parliament adopted a position paper on Belarus. CDU/CSU urge that the Lukashenko government ends the repressions in Belarus and call on the Federal Government of Germany to take actions at national, European and international levels in order to support the Belarusian civil society and force the Belarusian authorities to respect human rights.

Ažubalis is opening the conference
The foreign minister of Lithuania Audronius Ažubalis is opening the conference "A new Region of Europe: Regional Development Paradigms in the Baltic−Black Sea Intermarium", which is starting on the 26th of November. 50 participants from all countries of the region will attend the inter alias by KAS and EHU organized event.

In cooperation with the initiative Middle and Eastern Europe and the Network for Reporting on Eastern Europe we invite well-known Belarusian bloggers in the middle of October to Berlin, where they can participate in journalism and technical trainings. Belarusian blogs have the potential to open the society in the upcoming presidential elections in mid-December for critical discussions. Presidential Elections in Belarus on December 19, 2010
The Belarusian House of Representatives voted unanimously at an extraordinary session on September 14 to call Belarus' presidential elections for December 19, 2010. Until September 24 potential presidential candidates have to apply for the registration of their nomination groups. The collection of ballot-access signatures will begin on September 30.
