Also available in Deutsch

The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung invited Chinese experts on climate protection to Germany and Brussels for the purpose of exchanging ideas with important actors in the climate and environmental policy.

The latest developments in the German climate policy were the main topic of the seminar held in Germany. A special emphasis was placed on strategies concerning the implementation of the “Energiewende” (energy turnaround) of German companies and the national economy. Potential cooperation of German / European and Chinese institutions in the fields of climate and environment protection were also part of the seminar.

The first part of the program took part in Brussels for several days. There the Chinese experts from academics, administration, media and organisations working on environmental protection met with representatives from the European Parliament, the European External Action Service, the Directorate-Generals Environment and Energy of the European Commission and the Agency for Competitiveness as well as researchers from several think tanks.

The dialogue was continued in Cologne and Bonn, where the participants visited the Institute of Energy Economics of Cologne University and the Federal Network Agency. Concepts for climate protection and the energy supply on the municipal level as well as public participation in the context of the local Agenda 21 were topics of discussion during the visits of the Bonn town hall and the Bonn public utility company.

In Berlin the participants met Andreas Jung, member of the Bundestag, who is chairman of the parliamentarian’s council for sustainable development. Moreover they exchanged views with representatives from the NGO Germanwatch and from the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety. Dr. Beatrice Gorawantschy, Head of the Team Asia and Pacific, and Dr. Christian Hübner, Coordinator for Environment, Climate and Energy of KAS, gave an overview over the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung’s position on the topic of climate protection and its work on the topics in the region.
