20 years anniversary in Estonia

Saxon Prime Minister congratulates for achievements

Within the framework of a visit to Estonia, the CDU Parliamentary Group of Saxony and the Saxon Prime minister Stanislaw Tillich met the team of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung e.V. in Tallinn. The Saxon Head of Government congratulated the KAS for its achievements in the last 20 years and wishes continued success in its future work. The KAS Estonia office has been established in 1993 and celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2013.

KAS-Chairman received the “Cross of Terra Mariana” first class at 95. anniversary of the republic of Estonia. He got the award for his merits as long-time supporter of Estonian efforts to become a member in the EU. The conferment by Toomas Hendrik Ilves, president of Estonia, took place at the weekend at castle Kadriorg in Tallinn. It is the highest Estonian award- established in 1995 on occasion of the regained independence- that can be given to foreign citizens.

Estonia in Europe from a parliamentary perspective

In the context of his visit in Estonia Dr. Hans-Gert Pöttering MdEP, chairman of Konrad-Adenauer-Foundation e.V. and former president of European Parliament, met Ene Ergma MP, president of Estonian Riigikogu(parliament). Against the background of long lasting good relations they discussed current Europe-political challenges. Special interest applies to the middle-term financial planning of the EU and to the EU-Russia-relations.

Conference "The Soul of Europe"

Broad attendance at debate on European values

At the invitation of Tunne Kelam MEP, former President of the European Parliament Dr. Hans-Gert Pöttering MEP visited Tallinn on 08 February 2013 and gave a speech for a broad public of experts. He pointed out the positive trends and solidarity towards others within and beyond the EU; furthermore, he underlined the importance of Social Market Economy and highlighted the principle of subsidiarity. According to him the aforementioned has to reflect the triad of hometown, nation and Europe.

At the first weekend of Advent, Lars Kluge, Lord Mayor of Hohenstein-Ernstthal, and Thea Karin spoke about Christmas customs. “Mining parades, songs, pastries, and Christmas decorations have evolved in my region and are carefully upheld until today. This gives us a unique position in tourism, we gladly welcome many visitors each year. Even more, our regional customs are important for our identity and not just for us in the Erzgebirge mountains, identity is important everywhere”, explains Kluge.

German Cultural Institute Tartu a partner for the German-Estonian relations

In frame of the German-Estonian Week, held from 18 to 22.11.2012 at the University of Tartu, it came to the debate with the German Cultural Institute of Tartu and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Estonia. Malle Ploovits, Head of the Institute, pointed to the importance of German culture in Estonia's history, but also for the future of Estonia. German-Estonian relations are not only culturally but also economically important for the development of Estonia.

Juhan Parts, Estonian Minister of Economic Affairs and Communications, spoke on 06.11.2012 within the framework of the III. Future Forum Estonia about Estonia’s energy policy perspectives in a group of experts from government, business, media and church. A broad discussion on the compatibility of sustainability, energy security and competitive and consumer-friendly energy prices followed the speech of the former Estonian Prime Minister and long-time cabinet member of the Government of Estonia.
