Regional customs are important for identity in Europe

At the first weekend of Advent, Lars Kluge, Lord Mayor of Hohenstein-Ernstthal, and Thea Karin spoke about Christmas customs. “Mining parades, songs, pastries, and Christmas decorations have evolved in my region and are carefully upheld until today. This gives us a unique position in tourism, we gladly welcome many visitors each year. Even more, our regional customs are important for our identity and not just for us in the Erzgebirge mountains, identity is important everywhere”, explains Kluge.

German Cultural Institute Tartu a partner for the German-Estonian relations

In frame of the German-Estonian Week, held from 18 to 22.11.2012 at the University of Tartu, it came to the debate with the German Cultural Institute of Tartu and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Estonia. Malle Ploovits, Head of the Institute, pointed to the importance of German culture in Estonia's history, but also for the future of Estonia. German-Estonian relations are not only culturally but also economically important for the development of Estonia.

III. Future Forum Estonia

Estonia´s energy policy perspectives and challenges

Juhan Parts, Estonian Minister of Economic Affairs and Communications, spoke on 06.11.2012 within the framework of the III. Future Forum Estonia about Estonia’s energy policy perspectives in a group of experts from government, business, media and church. A broad discussion on the compatibility of sustainability, energy security and competitive and consumer-friendly energy prices followed the speech of the former Estonian Prime Minister and long-time cabinet member of the Government of Estonia.

Delegation from Estonia got information about the German "Energiewende"

The "Energiewende" is currently the most important project of the German Federal Government. Germany has to manage a comprehensive energetic transformation. As part of an information program an Estonian delegation visited Saarland 9-11.10.2012. A highlight was a meeting with Environment Minister Peter Altmaier MP, who had on the verge of an energy conference time to brief exchange with the delegation from the North East of Europe.

The 2012 Europe day was celebrated in Tallinn on 12 May with a colorful program. The embassies of EU member states opened their doors and were glad of people`s visit. Under the title "Active Ageing and intergenerational Solidarity" different events in Tallinn`s Old town and at Vabaduse place took place. The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung contributed with an information stand at the German Embassy.

KAS-Discussion Forum

Meaning of Christian values in the era of the global Village

In the frame of „Saksa Kevad“, German Redeemer´s Community Nõmme and KAS organized the meeting with Archbishop Andres Põder and pastor Christian Meiβner, general secretary of the CDU/CSU association "Evangelical Working Group”. During the debates the importance of Christian roots in the post-communist and post-secilar world were discussed. Conclusion: a man without a compass to guide him runs into the stormy waters of the globalization era.
