Zu Gast bei den Christian Mothers

CMA vereidigte Vorstand

Die Christian Mothers´Assiciation, eine der Hauptpartnerorganisationen der KAS in Ghana, hatte eingeladen, um einen neuen Vorstand in sein Amt einzuführen. Es ist der erste Vorstand in der Geschichte der Organisation. Mutter Clare Der, die nationale Präsidentin der Vereinigung, eröffnete das Treffen in Accra. Als Guest of Honour war Dr. Gregor Ryssel, Leiter des KAS in Ghana. Er sagte zu, sich möglichst bald mit den neuen Boardmitglieder zu treffen, um über die weitere Kooperation zu sprechen.

NPP Chairman at KAS Headquarters in Berlin

Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, NPP Chairman, had discussions with representatives of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung at its HQ in Berlin. Later he met MP H. Fischer who is Africa spokesman of the CDU parliamentary group in the German Bundestag. They exchanged among others ideas of future successful campaigning. Both parties are members of the international centrist-right party family (IDU). Later in the day Lamptey moved to London to congratulate the British Conservatives on their electoral success. more…

District Assembly Elections 2010

District Assembly Elections are to be very competitive

In 2010, Ghana goes to the polls to elect and appoint members of the District Assemblies. KAS supports the Ghana Union of Trade Associations (GUTA) to sensitize their members to be much more involved in the electoral process, that is campaigning with members to stand as candidates to the Assembly. One of such workshops took recently place in the Atebubu-Amanten District in the Brong-Ahafo Region. Mr. S. Nanja, DCE of the District, indicated that the district is one of the political flash points. more…

Support to democracy

Germany seminar for members of African centre-right political parties

Since Sunday evening, representatives of political parties from Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda are guests of the KAS in Berlin. The seminar intends to strengthen democratic structures, particularly the effect of political work in the participants’ home countries. Besides the search for strategies for successful centre-right policies, it will also provide insights into the German political system including the principles of the social market economy, as well as into current political affairs. more…

Women & Peacebuilding in Northern Ghana

Don't enter politics with the aim of fuelling conflicts!

This appeal was made by TEPPCON’s Partnership Coordinator, Ms. Agnes Gandaa, at a recent KAS sponsored Workshop in Yendi on capacity building for women on conflict management and peace building towards the 2010 District Assembly Elections. KAS' Snr. Programme Manager I. Owusu-Mensah pointed at "local conflict contractors" who cause long delays in conflict resolution. He reminded the audience that the sustainable development, supported by KAS, was especially for the less privileged in society. more…

Prof. Jonah: Ghana could gain from the benefits of a Social Market Economy

In a recent workshop sponsored by KAS, Prof. K. Jonah, Head of the Political Science Department of the University of Ghana, Legon, has said that Ghana could provide a viable route to economic and social development if it turned to a Social Marketing Economy (SME). This was in view that the market forces alone as supported by neo-liberal economic reform of the past do not lead to social justice. Chiefs called upon to contribute their share to 2010 District Elections

The Head of the Department of Political Science at the University of Ghana, Dr. Kwesi Jonah, has challenged chiefs to take up an active role in local governance, and help find solutions to major issues that are likely to hamper the smooth organisation of the 2010 district level elections. He was speaking at a recently KAS-sponsored workshop for members of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs, on the theme "The Chieftaincy Act and Involvement of Chiefs in the District Level Elections". more…

Evaluation of 20 years Local Assembly System in Ghana

The Institute of Local Government Studies (ILGS), in collaboration with KAS, orgainsed a stakeholder w/shop for recognised political parties to contribute towards the acceleration of decentralising Government. Hon. Joseph Y. Chireh, the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, said the review process is to rekindle popular interest in local governance and local level democracy for various sections of the population and to ensure efficient and sustainable local level development. more…

Promotion of Good Cooperate Governance

The Private Enterprise Foundation (PEF) in collaboration with KAS organised a day’s seminar for members of relevant Parliamentary committees to discuss how their functions can be enhanced to promote good corporate governance in Ghana. PEF President, Mr Asare Akuffo, highlighted the challenges the private sector faces, among others poor institutional and regulatory frameworks, poor infrastructure, poor public services delivery and enduring perception of corruption in the public service. more…
