In the course of the TERI-KAS Dialogue series „Strengthening environmental governance in the context of sustainable development“, the first dialogue on the mountain ecosystems took place from 29.07 – 31.07.12 in Shimla.

The objectives of these five dialogues are to highlight the specific environmental challenges in different ecosystems and to find solutions for the problem of climate change whilst taking into account the environmental peculiarities. The first of the five dialogues about the mountain ecosystem, which was organized and conducted by KAS in cooperation with The Energy and Research Institute (TERI) and the Indian Institute for Advanced Studies (IIAS) in Shimla, addressed the specific ecological challenges in the Himalayas and looked at the various opinions of the stakeholders from the areas of research, politics and education. Further TERI-KAS dialogues are planned regarding the ecosystems “plateaus”, “deserts”, “plains” and “coastal areas”.
