The Center for Indonesian Law and Policy Studies is an independent research institution that contributes significantly to the consistency of the legal enforcement and to legal reform in Indonesia to strenghten the civil society and the social movement in Indonesia. Law continues to be one of the crucial areas most in need of reform. Settlement of serious law violations such as corruption cases to violations of human rights requires effective legal institutions. Law is also a prerequisite to repairing systemic weaknesses in a variety of other sectors. For example, formal regulatory tools are a necessity in this process. If everything is dependent on reform in the legal sector than legal reform requires serious advocacy and research.

On 4 December 1994 the Paramadina Foundation with its chief Prof. Dr. Nurcholish Madjid, affectionately known as "Cak Nur," was a prominent Indonesian Muslim intellectual and a proponent for modernization within Islam and Pondok Mulya Foundation with its chief Sudwikatmono agreed to cooperate and establish a University called Paramadina. The goal of the University of Paramadina is to answer the challenges facing the country in the future and to improve the education model. At the same time trying to bear an alternative model and develop the university as a center for professional researches which are relevant to the development challenges.

Yayasan Perspektif Baru (YPB)

KAS has started its cooperation with the Yayasan Perspektif Baru (YPB) in 2003. YPB is an Indonesian nonprofit organization dedicated to providing public education and balanced information. YPB is chaired by Wimar Witoelar, the former Chief Presidential Spokesman for the reformist Indonesian President Abdurrahman Wahid. Wimar Witoelar is also well-known in Indonesia for his work as talk-show host. Besides producing Perspektif Baru radio programs, YPB actively participates in the promotion of democracy and pluralism in Indonesia by organizing seminars and discussions as well as trainings for Indonesian journalists concening the upcoming elections to ensure voters exercise their voting rights. YPB also provides technical assistances to several Indonesian NGOs and social activists by training them in communication.

The Soegeng Sarjadi Syndicate is a non profit organisation which was founded in January 2001 by the Soegeng Sarjadi Foundation. The idea of the founders, Soegeng Sarjadi and Sukardi Rinakit, was to support the transformation and democratisation of the land. The political, economic and social processes are accompanied by publications and analyses to stimulate the consciousness and the participation of the civil society. The main focuses of the SSS research are in the areas of the security policy (the military and terrorism), the political culture, the process of the decentralisation and the protection of the human rights in Indonesia.

LIPI - Indonesian Institute of Sciences

LIPI (Lembaga Ilmu Pengetahuan Indonesia) coordinates and administrates several research institutions that are concerned with research and development in areas of national priority. This includes basic scientific research mainly in the area of earth and life sciences, engineering as well as social sciences and humanities. Furthermore, LIPI fulfils service functions like policy advice, standardization, quality management, calibration, and documentation. Overall LIPI employs about 4.500 people nationwide, almost 1.000 of which are active in scientific research.

Indonesian Power for Democracy (IPD)

In 2007 the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) started its cooperation with the NGO Indonesian Power for Democracy (IPD) based in Yogyakarta. Founded by young graduates of the famous university of Gadjah Mada in Yogyakarta, IPD is core tasks and issues are the monitoring and supervising of the various election phases and processes at the regional and provincial level. The background of this cooperation is the basic need for further education of the people who are responsible for the organization and realization of elections such as the members of the respective commission as well as politicians and the electoral staff.

NGO Forum East Timor (FONGTIL)

NGOs in East Timor were encouraged to form an umbrella organization to coordinate and distribute emergency aid to the community due to the scarcity of food in 1998 resulting from the drought in 1997/1998. The NGOs agreed to form a coordinating Forum between NGOs that also functioned in coordination with the government in assisting the community.

Casa de Produção Audiovisual (CPA)

CPA was established in 2002 to build Timorese national identity through storytelling. CPA’s education program is based on television productions about popular legends, historical moments and figures of Timor Leste. Since television remains an important tool for general education, CPA arranged regular community screenings for people living in remote areas. Even schools use CPA productions as teaching materials. Today CPA produces a weekly TV show to learn about current topics from politics, economics to health.
