KAS Radio Programs

Also available in Bahasa Indonesia, Deutsch

Given the enormous geographic dimensions of the Indonesian archipelago, contemporary civic education cannot afford anymore to refrain from using a modern media-based approach in order to achieve its goals and reach its target groups.

Therefore, in 2003 KAS started cooperation with Yayasan Perspektif Baru (YPB), an organization headed by well-known Indonesian TV journalist and former talk show host Wimar Witoelar, also an ex-spokesman of former Indonesian President Abdurrahman Wahid. Together KAS and YPB produce a weekly radio program called “Perspektif Baru” (New Perspective). This is a one-on-one deeply investigated interview with a prominent figure that has a wide and clear perspective about recent actual topics. It aims to inspire and to give more understanding of current problems in the country.

“Perspektif Baru”, although a radio talk show, is also being featured in local newspapers. At present the episodes (30 minutes each) are broadcasted through more than 210 radio stations all over Indonesia and also printed in more than ten newspapers in big Indonesian cities.

With this joint project, KAS and YPB aim at

  • spreading political information and education to remote areas which have not yet been reached by television,
  • strengthening local radio stations and newspapers by providing them with a program that can give perspectives to the people and
  • improving information service quality through digging out critical thoughts of public figures and spreading them outside the capital (as most “Perspektif Baru” guests are from Jakarta).

A list of radio stations, which broadcast “Perspektif Baru” and of newspapers which re-print the programs can be ordered at the KAS Indonesia Office.
