Partei Demokrat turns out strong in 2009 parliamentary elections

The national-liberal party Demokrat of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is according to the most current counting of ballots with 20,2% of votes the strongest party of the parliamentary elections on April 9, 2009. In comparison to 2004, the party could triple its share of votes (7,5% at the time). The leading party of the last elections, vice president Kalla's Golkar party experienced a drastic drop from 21,6% to now 14,9% and came in third place. The party PDI-P of former president Megawati Sukarnoputri became second largest party but also had to suffer a drop in votes from 18,5% to 15,0%.
