This year the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung celebrates its 50th anniversary of European and International Cooperation. Hence it publishes a report explaining the development from the beginning in 1962 to the present day. Taur Matan Ruak, the New President of East Timor

People in East Timor saw the election year 2012 nervously and with discomfort. They were afraid that violence will occur, if the fragile functionality of their country is tested once again. However, based on the end of the president’s election, there were no reasons to be worried. The second round of the election on April 16th went peacefully and showed a clear result.
