Lecture by Michael Meister

German experiences with economic growth programs under the constraints of budget consolidation

On 08 February 2013 the KAS Japan Office organized a lecture by Dr. Michael Meister, Vice-Chairman of the CDU/CSU Parliamentary Group. He elaborated on the economic growth programs of different German governments and which conclusion could be drawn for financial and budget policy. His lecture was commented on by Mr. Atsushi Nakajima, Chairman of the Research Institute for Economy, Trade and Industry. Both contributions were intensively discussed.

Dr. Michael Meister met with representatives of government and opposition

During his stay in Japan the Vice-Chairman of the CDU/CSU Parliamentary Group met among others with Mr. Motoyuki Odachi, Member of the House of Councillors’ Finance Committee and former Vice Minister of Finance from the Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ), the leading opposition party, as well as Mr. Norio Mitsuya, Member of the House of Representatives’ Finance Committee and former Vice Minister of Finance from the currently ruling Liberal Democratic Party of Japan (LDP).

Press Conference with Michael Meister

German experiences with economic growth programs under the constraints of budget consolidation

At the beginning of a visit to Japan by the Vice-Chairman of the CDU/CSU Parliamentary Group, Dr. Michael Meister, the KAS Japan Office together with the Japan National Press Club organized a conference with numerous representatives of the Japanese media, where Dr. Meister presented the German experience with the introduction of various growth programs in recent years and especially in overcoming the latest financial and economic crises.

As a part of its SOPAS regional programme the KAS Japan Office organized in cooperation with the Shanghai Institute of Foreign Trade (SIFT) and supported by the KAS Office in China | Shanghai an international symposium on the "Impact of the Global Sovereign Debt Crisis on Emerging Countries" on 24 Nov 2012. Current Issues of Human Security and Development

On occasion of a visit to Japan by Mrs. Andrea Ostheimer, Head of the KAS Multinational Dialogue on Development Policy, the KAS Japan Office on 20 November 2012 hosted a round table on "Current Issues of Human Security and Development". On 10 and 11 October 2012 the KAS regional program SOPAS together with the Chulalongkorn University held an international conference on "The SME Sector in the ASEAN Economic Community 2015 - Ensuring Growth, Competitiveness and Sustainability". At this conference, participants from 10 Asian countries formulated approaches for a common economic governance framework for the further development of SME companies in the ASEAN region. more…
