Sustainable Growth - Financial Stability

As a part of the SOPAS regional programme, on 02 October 2012 the KAS Japan Office orgainzed an international symposium on "Sustainable Growth - Financial Stability: Current Lessons for Social and Economic Governance" in cooperation with the IIMA, Japan, and the GMMF, Malaysia. SOPAS Workshop Series

Market Economic Challenges in Asia

With the SOPAS regional program the KAS is intensively working on the current market economic challenges in the region. At the beginning of a new middle-term project, a series of subregional workshops with the title "Market Economic Challenges in Asia" was held in the time between 18 and 24 September 2012. As a Project Lead Group Prof. Rolf J. Langhammer, Prof. André Schmidt, Prof. Suthiphand Chirathivat and Prof. Charit Tingsabadh guided the project work in Bangkok, Tokyo und Delhi. more…

During a stay of the Chairman of the CDU/CSU Parliamentary Group, Volker Kauder, KAS Japan in cooperation withe the Osaka University organized a lecture on the question "Quo Vadis, Europe?" on 08 August 2012, held by the chairman and also attended by the Foreig Policy Spokesman of the Parliamentary Group, Philipp Mißfelder, as well as the German Ambassador in Japan, Dr. Volker Stanzel, and the former Japanese Ambassador in Berlin, Prof. Dr. Takahiro Shinyo. more…

AHK China interview on the occasion of SOPAS events

The Delegation of German Industry and Commerce (AHK) in Shanghai published an interview with Dr. Michael Fuchs about the Euro crisis and the perspectives for the German and the Chinese economies in the August-September issue of its German Chamber Ticker. The interview took place in the framework of a visit of the Vice Chairman of the CDU/CSU Parliamentary Group in the German Bundestag to South Korea and China in July 2012 on invitation by the regional programme SOPAS. more…

Experts’ Meeting in Kansai Metropolis

NATO delegation concludes visit in Osaka

At the end of the NATO delegation’s one-week stay in Japan under the lead of Dr. Karl-A. Lamers, the KAS office in Japan organized an experts’ meeting with Japanese politicians, diplomats, researchers and representatives of KAS partner organizations in the Kansai region on 27 July 2012. The Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany, Alexander Olbrich, and his Deputy, Consul Florian Jäger, also participated in these consultative talks. more…

NATO delegation for presentations and debates at Kyoto University

In addition to a range of NATO-related events in Tokyo, the KAS office in Japan organized a seminar on “The Global and Asian Security Situation: The View of NATO” in collaboration with Kyoto University in the former imperial capitol of Japan. NATO experts Dr. Karl-A. Lamers, Dr. Karl-Heinz Kamp, and Michael Rühle met Prof. Hiroshi Nakanishi and other security experts of the renowned Kyoto University, as well as the German Consul General Dr. Alexander Olbrich. more…

During their stay in Japan organized by the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, the NATO delegation under the lead of Dr. Karl-A. Lamers, President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, met the Prime Minister’s Security Adviser on 26 July 2012. Mr. Akihisa Nagashima presented the Japanese government’s views on current developments concerning security matters and the role of NATO to Dr. Lamers, Dr. Karl-Heinz Kamp and Michael Rühle. more…

NATO delegation exchanges ideas with Japanese MPs

Invited by the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung’s Japan Office, high-ranking parliamentary representatives of the Diet Members Council for Comprehensive Security met with Dr. Karl-A. Lamers, President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, and the NATO experts Dr. Karl-Heinz Kamp and Michael Rühle for consultative talks in the Capitol Hotel Tokyu on 26 July 2012. The German Ambassador, Dr. Volker Stanzel, also participated in the meeting.

Experts’ Meeting with Tokyo Foundation

NATO in a Changing World: Implications for Japan

On 25 July 2012, the KAS Japan in cooperation with the Tokyo Foundation, organized a closed experts’ meeting on the subject “NATO in a Changing World: Implications for Japan”, among others attended by Dr. Karl-A. Lamers, Dr. Karl-Heinz Kamp, Michael Rühle, and the Japanese Deputy Vice-Minister for Foreign Policy/Director-General Foreign Policy Bureau, Koji Tsuruoka.
