On October 16th, Dr. Martin Beck held a lecture on "Peace-Building in the Middle East: EU Perspectives in the Light of the Arab Spring" at a scientific conference on "Advancing Justice and Reconciliation for Long-Term Peace Building in the Middle East". The conference which took place on October 16/17th was organised by the Regional Center for Conflict Prevention/Jordan Institute of Diplomacy in Amman. Dr. Martin Beck virtually participated at a sientific conference on "Will a Regional Power Re-Emerge in the Middle East? New Power Constellations after the Arab Revolts" in Hamburg, Germany, on October 13/14th. Dr. Martin Beck taught a course on Cross-Mediterranean Relations at the Jordanian Institute of Diplomacy

Dr. Martin Beck taught future Jordanian diplomats on cross-mediterranean relations at the Insitute of Diplomacy. The four-day course was held from October 3rd to 6th and covered historical and theoretical aspects of Euro-Arab relations, the relevance of the Israli-Palestinian conflict and the challenges of the Arab Spring.

On Septemer 24/25th, 2011, Dr. Martin Beck participated at an international conference on "Palestine: Theological and Political Challenges" at the Evangelical Academy in Hofgeismar, Germany. Among the participants was also Professor Dr. Helga Baumgarten from Birzeit University, Palestine. Martin Beck gave a lecture "On the chances of an Israeli-Palestinian Peace and the Role of Europe.

Study Visit to Brussels with Directors of JCCES, LCCES and WEO.

Accompanied by three directors of leading non-governmental organizations from Jordan; Mona al-Alami (JCCES), Susan Arif (WEO, Iraq) and Rula Mikhael (LCCES), Martin Beck travelled to a study visit to Brussels, which was organized by the KAS office in Brussels headed by Andrea Ostheimer. The participants had the opportunity to meet high-ranking figures from the European Parliament, the European Commission, the European Action Service, NATO and several important non-governmental organizations. more…

Dr. Martin Beck at the Summer School held at the German-Jordanian University

Martin Beck taught a modul on Regional Relations of the Arab World at a Summer School organized by the Freie Universität Berlin at the German-Jordanian University in Amman on September 11, 2011. He lectured and discussed with students from Jordan, Syria, Morocco, Germany, Switzerland and Canada on theoritical tools of International Relations, the history of regional affairs and the Arab Spring and its meaning in general and for Jordan in particular. more…

Empowering Local Governments in Jordan: Enhancing Political and Developmental Relations between Local Governments and Local Communities

KAS Amman and the Visions Center started a series of workshops focussing on decentralisation and the role of municipalities in local development. The aim of this workshop was to increase the institutional capacity of municipalities by enhancing their coordination and cooperation with NGOs in managing local resources and developing general policies. KAS Amman and the Visions Centre, feel deeply committed to promote the capacity building of municipalities and the value of subsidiary. more…
