“Trust” in South and North Korean Society

At 7 pm yesterday, the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) Korea Office and the Korean Democratic Citizenship Education Center (KDEC) jointly held the “2nd Political Participation and Communications Workshop.” Students from various university associations came together to exchange their thoughts on a range of topics including but not limited to “trust” in South and North Korean society, Brexit, as well as other pending political and international questions.

"Good neighbors"

It is more than just the entrance hall that is shared by the KAS office Korea and the diplomatic mission of Portugal. It is the link between Europe and the Korean peninsula, that both work on. Ambassador Antonio Quinteiro Nobre has visited the KAS office to greet his new neighbor. Since early March, Stefan Samse is representing KAS in Seoul. Before being posted to Seoul, the lawyer has been working in Berlin`s Senate administration for Justice and Consumer Protection.

Saenuri Secretary General praises KAS work in Korea

Hwang Jin Ha MP, Secretary General of South Korea's ruling conservative Saenuri party, paid tribute to the work of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung in Korea. The foundation has enjoyed considerable reputation around the country and deserved Korea's credit for its work over almost 40 years, Hwang said. He also bade farewell to Dr. Norbert Eschborn, Resident Representative of KAS to Korea, whose term on the peninsula will come to an end after more than four years at the end of December.

Dr. Albin Nees, former Vice Minister for Social Affairs in the State of Saxony, and Thomas Kunz, Director General with the Thuringia Ministry of Justice, met with famous Korean columnist Kim Young-hie for a lenghty interview about their contributions to the rebuilding of the East German administration after 1990 including personal anecdotes. Both Nees and Kunz were in Korea as guests of KAS and spoke during a rule of law symposium in cooperation with the of the Korea University. more…

KAS Deputy Chairwoman Hildigund Neubert visits Partner Yeo-Myung School

An interim appraisal of the integration of North Korean refugees in South Korea was the main topic of a visit to KAS's Korean partner Yeo-Myung School by the Deputy Chairwoman of KAS, Hildigund Neubert. The former State Secretary held talks with both faculty and students of the school and was particularly impressed by the various pieces of art created by the students as ameans to overcome their traumata many of them have been suffering from since their escape.

German-Korean Security Dialogue

Overwhelming Interest in Western Maritime Security Strategies

Around 500 members of the Korean Naval Academy in Jinhae participated in the presentation on "Maritime Security Strategies of the EU and NATO: a Comparison", given by the former Inspector of the German Navy, Vice Admiral (ret.) Lutz Feldt, on May 1. KAS Korea cooperated for the first time with the Academy in connection with the German-Korean Security Dialogue initiated by the Foundation already in 2011. This year five events of the KAS "Theme Week Security" attracted more than 800 people.
