On May 17, Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung and the SLOC Study Group—Korea held their 6th joint conference at The Plaza Hotel in Seoul. The overarching theme of the conference—artificial islands in the South China Sea—produced a lot of fruitful discussion as well as debate. Theme Week Security 2016: Transnational Risk Assessment and Responses


On May 16, Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung and RINSA held their 6th joint conference at the Westin Chosun hotel in Seoul amid a wide diversity of panels and presentations. The key headlines were related to the growing threat of transnational risks on cyber, migration and epidemic dimensions. Expert’s Meeting: A Post-Evaluation of the 20th Parliamentary Election

A week after the 20th parliamentary elections in South Korea, the KAS Korea Office invited representatives of the two major parties, Saenuri and Minjoo, as well as members of citizens’ initiatives to join an experts meeting to discuss the unexpected outcome of the election. The main topics of this cross-party discussion which was held on April 20th included possible reasons for the loss of the Saenuri Party in the recent election and potential long-term consequences for Korean politics. Prof. Emeritus Jang-Hie Lee of the Hankuk University of Foreign Studies moderated the lively discussion. more…
