Crew Change in the Baltic States

Andreas von Below leaves – Andreas Klein is new head of office

Andreas von Below is leaving the Baltic States' office of the KAS in Riga after four years of duty in the region. His successor, Andreas Klein, was heading the Foundation's regional office in Dusseldorf since April 2006, and is having Foreign experience as KAS's country director in Macedonia from 2000 until 2004. From October 8th, 2007, will be in charge for the KAS's projects in the Baltic States. Andreas von Below is leaving to Bulgaria to head the Foundation's office in Sofia.

The Vice-Chairman of the Baltic-German Parliamentary Group of German Bundestag, Mrs Antje Blumenthal, visited Latvia

In occasion of a speech at the Latvian Academy of Culture the member of the German Parliament Antje Blumenthal visits Riga on 2-4. October. She meets with the chairman of the Latvian-German Parliamentary Group of the Saeima Solvita Āboltiņa, the chairman of the Latvian Europe Movement Andris Gobiņš and representatives of the Foreign Trade Chamber Riga. Antje Blumenthal is accompanied by the Head of the KAS-abroad office Dr. Andreas von Below.

Baltic Sea Conference in Luebeck on promoting a joint environmental policy

In collaboration with the Hanseatic city of Luebeck, the Konrad Adenauer Foundation inivited to a Baltic Sea Conference from June 7th – 9th 2007. 60 representatives of the riparian states, a.o. from Poland, the Baltic States and Russia, debated on a joint environmental policy. The conference illustrated the importance of a joint course of action concerning environmental problems and encouraged the setup for an environment protection network in the Baltic.

High-ranking politicians from Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania at the chancellery in Berlin

From January 17th until 19th, 2007, a high-ranking delegation of politicians from the Baltic States is going to meet the chancellor of Germany, Dr. Angela Merkel, in Berlin. The politicians will discuss the upcoming German EU-Presidency and the relations between the European Union and Russia.

International Conference

"Democracy Beyond the Baltics: Euro-Atlantic Contribution"

The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) together with the Fondation Robert Schumann of France, the Soros Foundation Latvia and the German Marshall Fund of the United States supports an international conference organised by the Latvian Transatlantic Organization (LATO) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia, May 5-6, 2005. more…
