Book presentation

Jesus and Caesar: Christianity and Power

Theologian Valdis Tēraudkalns issued, with support of Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, the first academic dispute of Christianity and political power in Latvian language. After his studies in the USA, Great Britain, Germany and Austria Tēraudkalns places with his monography a milestone in Latvian discussion about the spiritual basis of (Christian democratic) politics. Riga Conference 2010

German Chancellor Angela Merkel visits Vilnius and Riga

German Chancellor Angela Merkel is expected today for a two day visit in Vilnius and Riga. In Riga the Chancellor meets Latvian President Valdis Zatlers and Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis to discuss the economic and political situation in Latvia before the Parliamentary elections on October 2. Moreover, Merkel will meet German and Latvian businessman and visit the Occupation museum.

Night Dust and Knock-Code or Le Dossier Robert

During the event series "Reprocessing of Communism as an European Task" the Author and Civic rights defender Karsten Dümmel reads on September 9 at 6 p.m. at the Club Hamlets in Riga from his novel "Night Dust and Knock-Code or Le Dossier Robert". Adventure Sphere Europe

In attendance of Latvia's Minister of Education and Science, Professor Tatjana Koķe, the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung and the University of Latvia have presented the teacher’s handbook “Adventure Sphere Europe” to the public on August 12 in Riga. Minister Koķe underlined the utility of the handbook providing information about the EU, didactical guidance as well as concrete teaching examples for high-school teachers and is expecting that teachers and multipliers will make great use of it. Presentation of the handbook "Adventure Sphere Europe"

After one year of intensive work the KAS with its Baltic partners, the University of Latvia and the Jaan Tönissoni Institute, are presenting the handbook "Adventure Sphere Europe" on Thursday, August 12th, 2010 in Riga. The handbook shall enable teachers to present the European values as well as the functioning of the European institutions in a more interactive, and thus in a more interesting way to their pupils. YEPP Summer School

YEPP/KAS Summer School in Jurmala Opened

Combating the global financial and economic crisis as well as lessons learned from the past two years are the key subjects at the Summer School of YEPP, TP and KAS in Latvia. Despite the discussions in working groups round 80 young politicians from christian conservative European partner organisations debate since today with politicians and experts from the Baltic Sea Region on sustainable development as viable post crisis strategy for Europe. Parliamentary Election 2010

Founding Congress "For a Good Latvia!"

After the consolidation of civic parties into electoral alliance "Vienotiba" (Unity) the opposition parties LPP/LC and TP built a corner stone for further closer cooperation. The two parties founded electoral alliance "For a Good Latvia!" (PLL) with the Former Latvian President Guntis Ulmanis as a Chairperson. Anniversaries of Freedom and Unity

Latvia celebrates the 20 anniversary of the Independence Declaration

On 4 may 1990 the Supreme Council of Latvian Socialist Sowjet Republic (LSSR) voted for the restoration of Latvian independence and declared the independence from Sowjet Union. Months lasting struggle for independence took place, which ended with January barricades 1991, as special troops of Sowjet Ministry of Interior attacked Riga. De facto entered the Declaration into force only after the collapse of UdSSR on 23 August 1991.

Event report

II Dikli Forum on Social Market Economy

For the second time political, economic and consulting experts from the Baltic and Nordic countries as well as from Germany met in Dikli castle. The main discussion topics were global financial and economic crisis as well as sustainable action plans for competing the crisis. Most interesting were the concept of social market economy and Danish model of "Flexicurity", which is based on strong socal partner´s alliance.
