Power and Powerlessness in a Dictatorship

The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung cordially invites to discussion with filmdirector and author Freya Klier and bishop Pāvils Brūvers in Museum of Barrikades in Riga. Moreover Freya Klier and Pāvils Brūvers will discuss after the documentary film "Der Moskau-Paris-Express" with schoolchildren about life in a dictatorship and memories about it. 3-5.30 p.m., Krāmu iela 3 in Riga.

Tautas Party leaves governing coalition

After several moths lasting tribal Tautas Party resigned from governing coalition. The resignment followed after unsuccessful ultimatum of TP Chairman Andris Skele to Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis. TP claimed administrative reform as well as to stop increasing taxes. The governing coalition of JL, ZZS, PS and TB/LNNK now have 44 members from 100 in the parliament. Dombrovskis will probably govern in minority coalition untill the parliamentary election on October 2.

Establishement of the Electoral Alliance Vienotiba

“Together we are strong” – with this key-message the parties JL, PS and SCP established electoral alliance Vienotiba. The alliance promises the new beginning in politics, which will be created transparently, openly and constructively. With the electoral alliance the parties hope for better result at the parliamentary elections in October. SCP votes for electoral alliance with JL and PS

As the third civic party "Sabiedrība citai politikai" (Society for other Politics, SCP) voted on its party congress for the membership at the electoral alliance "Vienotība" (Unity). The political guidelines of alliance of JL, PS and SCP were introduced for the first time. With the slogan "For people of Latvia and state" the alliance wants to bring the confidence of Latvian citizens in their country and democracy back. more…

The Resident Representative of KAS is being "overshadowed"

The KAS takes part at the 10 Shadowday in Latvia. The whole day long two pupils "overshadow" the Resident Representative of the KAS Office in Riga, Andreas Klein. The pupils will get to know the oficce everyday life and accompany Mr. Klein during meetings with partners. Riga University of Law, Museum of Barikades and dialogue with German law students are on top of the agenda. The aim of the Shadowday is to support personal initiative, teamwork and creativity of participants. more…

Party Congress of Jaunais Laiks (JL) shows Unity

During the party congress last weekend Solvita Aboltina was elected with the vast majority of votes as Chairperson of JL. In her lively speech she praised the spirit of the Independence movement and called citizens to act and help overcome the political and financial crisis. Moreover the delegates voted for the electoral alliance "Vienotiba", with which the civic parties JL, SP and SCP will stand to Parliamentary Elections in October.

Pilsoniska Savieniba lays the foundation-stone to the electoral alliance "Vienotiba"

The majority of delegates of the KAS-partner party Pilsoniska Savieniba have voted on their party congress for the electoral alliance with Jaunais Laiks and Sabiedrību citai politikai and will stand together for elections on October 2. The electoral alliance "Vienotiba" (Unity) of civic parties takes shape. In coming weeks and moths the electoral alliance will try to attract voters with the slogan "Cooperation. Trust. Competence".

Prof. Dr. Hans-Gert Pöttering new Chairman of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung

On December 4, 2009 the members of the foundation elected former President of the European Parliament Prof. Dr. Hans-Gert Pöttering MEP to the new Chairman of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung. Today Mr. Pöttering oficially takes the lead of KAS and becomes successor of the former longtime Chairman Prof. Dr. Bernhard Vogel, who will continue to support the KAS as honorary Chairman.

Design Contest

The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung organizes a contest on the cover of the handbook “Adventure Sphere Europe”. The publication contains proposals for European political education in Estonian and Latvian schools. The first place will be remunerated with 500 Euros. The layout should be in DIN A4, vertical.
