KAS election guide 2010 (30th September 2010)

On October 2, 2010, the citizens of the Republic of Latvia are electing their representatives to the 10th Saeima. The voters have the choice between thirteen parties which were registered at the Central Election Commission by August 3. As the party system in Latvia in general is characterized by a high fluctuation of political parties, the KAS Election Guide 2010 aims to give a broad overview of the Latvian political system as well as of the most important political parties/blocs competing in the 2010 Parliamentary elections.

Founding congress of the party alliance „Vienotība“ successful (10th March 2010)

The party alliance „Vienotība“ held its founding congress on the 6th March 2010 in the Latvian National theatre in front of a bustling auditorium. The National theatre is the place where in 1918 the independence of Latvia was declared. At the party congress, the political, economical and social change was to be underlined to combat the most troubling crisis that the young democratic state of Latvia has faced.

Civil Parties agree on political alliance (22nd Feb. 2010)

Latvia´s civil parties „New Time“ (Jaunais Laiks, JL), „Citizens´ Union“ (Pilsoniska Savienība, PS) and „Society for a change in politics“ (Sabiedrība Citai Politikai, SCP) are forming a political alliance before the elections. With the alliance named „Vienotība“ (Unity), the parties hope to augment their chances for the upcoming parliamentary election which will take place on the 2nd October 2010.
