    The book "The Rise of Populism: Lessons for the European Union and the United States of America" was presented on the 24th of November in the EU-House. It is a result of the cooperation between the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, the Center for East European Studies and the European People´s Party in the EU-Parliament.

    Welcome speeches were held by Elisabeth Bauer, Head of the KAS office for the Baltic States and Nordic Countries, and Andis Kudors, Co-editor and head of the Center for East European Studies.

    Speakers were co-editor Artis Pabriks, member of the European Parliament, and the co-authors Dr. Ilze Balcere, researcher at the Institute for Social and Political research at the Latvian University and Dr. FLorian Hartleb, political advisor and researcher.

    The discussion was moderated by Maris Cepuritis, Center for East European Studies.

    The speakers gave an introduction to the article they had written. Dr. Ilze Balcere investigated the true meaning of populism on the basis of a political science perspective. Dr. Florian Hartleb occupied himself with the influence of populism on German and Dutch elections. Arits Pabriks gave insight of the cooperation and the development of the book.

    After the discussions the participants were given the opportunity to ask questions.

    The presentation was intended for multipliers from politics, media and science. The Working language was English.
