Adventure Sphere Europe

After the successful presentation of the teacher’s handbook “Adventure Sphere Europe” to the wider public in Latvia and Estonia in August 2010 the project enters its implementation phase: From December 2010 until April 2011 the Konrad Adenauer Foundation with its partner the Faculty of Pedagogy and Psychology of the University of Latvia in cooperation with the European Commission’s representation in Latvia is organizing 11 workshops for teachers throughout Latvia. more…

Van Rompuy encourages Europe

800 citizens listen to the first „State of Europe“ address at the Pergamon Museum in Berlin

„Today, Europe’s 500 million citizens have the foundation on which to build a better Europe in the future,” said Herman Van Rompuy, President of the European Council in the first „State of Europe“ address. Van Rompuy used this address to promote a confident and strong Europe in front of an audience of 800 citizens at the historic Pergamon Museum in Berlin. more…

KAS election guide 2010

On October 2, 2010, the citizens of the Republic of Latvia are electing their representatives to the 10th Saeima. The voters have the choice between thirteen parties which were registered at the Central Election Commission by August 3. As the party system in Latvia in general is characterized by a high fluctuation of political parties, the KAS Election Guide 2010 aims to give a broad overview of the Latvian political system as well as of the most important political parties/blocs competing in the 2010 Parliamentary elections. more…

Germany´s Relations with the Baltic States Since Reunification

There is no doubting the fact that relations between Germany and the Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania are both good and close. Germany’s new minister for foreign affairs, Guido Westerwelle, also leaves no room for doubt as to the particular quality of the relations. Shortly after taking office in the fall of 2009 he met his opposite numbers from the Baltic states in Brussels for consultations which subsequently continued in July 2010 in Tallinn in the traditional 3 + 1 format. more…
