Prerogatives in Municipal councils

On the 20 and 21st of July 2017 the Observatory for Public Administration and Good Governance in Saint Joseph University Beirut organized in collaboration with the Konrad Adenauer Foundation a workshop on achieving efficiency and effectiveness in local administrations.

On the 20 and 21st of July 2017 the Observatory for Public Administration and Good Governance in Saint Joseph University Beirut organized in collaboration with the Konrad Adenauer Foundation a workshop on achieving efficiency and effectiveness in local administrations and developing their capacity to prevent, manage and regulate local conflicts. The activity targeted local authorities, mainly people working in municipalities in the North governorate, the South and the Beqaa region. Participants were members and presidents of municipalities coming to gain more knowledge on how to manage their daily work.

The covered subject focused on: The prerogatives of local authorities in the framework of the current law on municipalities and in the light of the project of law on decentralization, the making of developmental projects and the search for funds, on budgeting and the balance of expenses, on reinforcing local economies and generating income, on sustainable waste management and the protection of the environment, on urban planning and land management, and monetary supervision on municipalities.

The Observatory for Public Administration and Good governance and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation are looking forward to duplicate the training to specific regions in order to tackle the municipalities’ problems and challenges in other regions according to their needs.
