“The inherent dignity and of the equal and inalienable rights of all members of the human family is the foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world”, The Universal Declaration of Human Rights 1948.

What ideas and what values should we appeal to in building democracy in Lithuania, as well as the whole public order in Europe? What foundation should we place for the edifice of our society, so that it is not alien to the fundamental convictions of our nation and to the Christian bedrock of European identity? Are we, amid the deepening signs of the ‘culture of death’ in our societies, fulfilling our mission to protect human dignity? What course should we adopt in order to conserve the shared legacy of Christian values, on which the authentic European culture is based?

The Institute for Democratic Politics and the KAS kindly invite to a round table discussion on human dignity and its relevance for our public and political life on Wednesday, 10th of March 2010, on the eve of the restoration of independent Lithuanian state, thus commemorating the values that we asserted and defended 20 years ago.
