2007 Lithuanian Constitutional Court announced it's decision that Lithuanian legislation on elections violate the constitution of the Republic of Lithuania. According to the legislation only political parties can post their candidates as well as there can be independent candidates posted. So the Lithuanian government has to pass new election legislation and allow social movements to post their candidates on the electoral lists during the local elections. The Supreme Electoral Commission of Lithuania suggested recently the new and complicated election system. Whether the new legislation and election system will be implemented, we still have to wait and see in February 2011.
