The Konrad Adenauer Stiftung Announces the KAS Energy Security Fellowship
The Fellowship is to be hosted at the European Centre for Energy and Resource Security (EUCERS) at King's College London. It will fund a research stay of 12-months for a European Union (EU) resident research fellow starting in September 2012.

The Perspectives of Social Market Development in Lithuania
At 9 September the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in co-operation with the Lithuanian Social Market Institute and the ECPF held a seminar on the perspectives of ‘Social Market Economy’ in Lithuania. The seminar had the honour that Mrs. Irene Degutiené, President of the Seimas, opened the event. Mrs. Degutiené emphasised the importance of reflection at the social market economy in the light of the present economical situation and that a new direction was necessary in economical thought and policy.

The X. International KAS Summer Academy in Klaipeda focus on the concept of the Social Market Economy. Thereby, the young politicians from seven European countries are discussing about the impacts of the global finacial and economic crisis as well.

The KAS was awarded for promotion of Social Market Economy in Lithuania. The KAS-Regional Representative for the Baltic States, Andreas Klein, accepted the award from Chairman of the Committee of European Affairs of Seimas, Mr. Česlovas Stankevičius.
New Minister of Economy of the Republic of Lithuania inaugurated
The new Minister of Economy Rimantas Žylius (Homeland Union/Lithuanian Christian Democrates) was inaugurated today. Before becoming Minister of Economy he worked in the team of his antecessor Dainius Kreivys as Vice-Minister of Economy. The new Minister will continue the ongoing reforms. As main priorities in his new position Mr. Žylius named increasement of transparency of public procurement, improvement of investment climate, innovations, export promotion.
Lithuania celebrates the 21st anniversary of its independence
Today, 21 year ago, the Lithuanian Supreme Council/Reconstituent Seimas voted for the Act of Re-establishmen of the Republic of Lithuania. With this Act Lithuania took first steps towards democracy, independency, freedom, legal state as well as European integration. The 11th of March 1990 will be commemorated today with many different events.

Lithuanian Minister of Economy declares his Resignation
On Tuesday, March 8, Lithuanian Minister of Economy Dainius Kreivys declared his resignation. The decision was made after his attestation by the National Ethics Committee. The attestation stated that the minister confused private and public interests while issuing the EU funding to the company co-owned by his mother. Kreivys is already the fifth minister being exchanged in the Cabinet led by PM Andrius Kubilius since the beginning of legislative period.
