Therefore the KAS and it's partner-party in Lithuania the Homeland Union/Christian democrats arrange a cycle of debates on the main topics and issues. Lithuania stands at the side of Georgia

A rally of a few thousand participants in Vilnius expressed solidarity to war-ridden Georgia Wednesday evening. The rally was organized by the party Homelandunion/Christiandemocrats. Member of the European Parliament Vytautas Landsbergis giving an emotional speech called on the EU to condemn the Russian aggression against Georgia. Already in the days before, a couple of hundred people demonstrated in front of the Russian embassy in Vilnius asking for an immediate end of the war in the Caucasus.

Head of State and Government of the Baltic States and Poland propose peace plan for solving Georgia conflict

Lithuania's President of State Valdas Adamkus and his colleagues from Estonia and Poland together with the Latvian Prime Minister on their visit to Tbilisi signed a joint declaration asking for an immediate cease fire, and supporting the territorial integrity of Georgia within the internationally recognised borders. Moreover, in order to prevent similar acts of agression against Georgia in the future, the country should be included into the NATO Membership Action Plan.

Latvian and Lithuanian Parliament ratifying Lisbon Treaty

On May 8, the Parliaments of Latvia and Lithuania have ratified the Treaty of Lisbon. While the vast majority of MPs in Latvia's Saeima have approved the treaty, the voting at the Lithuanian Parliament was preceded by a heated debated. Currently, Lithuania feels abandoned by its European partners regarding the negotiations with Russia over Lithuania's energy security and the unsolved issue of reparation for the damages caused by more than 40 years of Sovjet occupation.
