The partner organisation of Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) in Sarawak, AZAM (Angkatan Zaman Mansang) celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. On 1 December 2008, a dinner celebration was held and the event was honoured by the attendance of the Chief Minister of Sarawak, Yang Amat Berhormat Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud. In his speech at the dinner gala, the Chief Minister praised the work of AZAM and thanked KAS for its many years of support, and its contribution to the development of Sarawak. For the past twenty years, KAS with the partnership of AZAM has been involved in the development of communal leadership, indigenous groups, youths, and women in the rural areas in order to strengthen self-initiated and sustainable development in the state, which up to now has profited little from the rapid development of the Peninsula Malaysia. Nevertheless, the rich natural resources and the unique biodiversity of Sarawak requires manageable conservation to maintain its economic value and at the same time protection. To this end, KAS aims to promote programmes that are conscious of these needs and to seek practical solutions to them.
