Also available in Deutsch
The Konrad Adenauer Stiftung is one of six political foundations in the Federal Republic of Germany and is closely related to the Christian Democratic Union.
Having emerged from the 'Society for Christian Democratic Education Work', the Foundation was named after Germany’s first democratic chancellor after World War II, Konrad Adenauer. Adenauer was the driving force behind the reconciliation with former war enemies and victims of the Nazi era. He was a committed believer in the European unification and highly influential in its initial phase.
The Foundation is guided by the same principles that inspired Konrad Adenauer's work which is rooted in the Christian concept of human nature. The foundation therefore contributes towards shaping international politics in accordance with the values of freedom, justice, solidarity, human rights and a free and social market economy. Operating in over 100 countries with offices in over 75 states around the world, the foundation aims to encourage democracy, good governance and the rule of law. Through this, the KAS hopes to ensure sustainable development and encourage understanding across national and cultural boundaries.
The Konrad Adenauer Stiftung offers political education, conducts scientific fact-finding research for political projects, grants scholarships to gifted individuals, researches the history of Christian Democracy, and supports and encourages European unification, international understanding, and development-policy cooperation.
