Energising Africa - Financing Access to Energy

On the 22nd October 2017 the Multinational Development Policy Dialogue of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung hosted the dinner debate “Energising Africa – Financing Access to Energy”. This discussion brought together over thirty environmental experts, representatives from the Alliance for Rural Electrification (ARE) and the Renewable Energy Cooperation Programme (RECP), CEOS, ambassadors and the Commission to discuss energy access goals and their implementation in urban and rural Africa.

Post-ISIS Ninewa: The European Response

On 6 June 2017, the Multinational Development Policy Dialogue of Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, together with the Institute of International Law and Human Rights, No Peace Without Justice, Minority Rights Group International and the Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organization organized the high-level conference "Post-ISIS Ninewa: The European Response". On 30 May 2017 the President of the Colombian Conservative Party, Senator Hernán Andrade, and the representative of the Democratic Centre party, Senator Alfredo Rangel, participated in a dinner-debate organized by the Multinational Development Policy Dialogue of Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung. On 30th of May 2017, the Multinational Development Policy Dialogue of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung organised together with Bread for the World and the EPP group in the European Parliament the expert lunch discussion: “Financing climate induced loss & damage - Chances and opportunities of the G7 InsuResilience initiative” in Brussels. Chaired by MEP Dr. Peter Liese, the discussion in the European Parliament focused on the opportunities of the G7 initiative for climate change affected countries.

Dialogue Program

Representatives of the Tunisian Institute for Strategic Studies (ITES)

Between the 15th and 16th of May, the KAS MED organized a dialogue program for representatives of ITES. The delegation members accumulated knowledge of the structures, development and functionality of think tanks and advising institutes in Brussels through discussions at the interface of politics and science. Furthermore, the representatives had the opportunity to harness their experiences in the future development of the ITES and presented their institute on a broader international level.

African parlamentarians and mayors visit Brussels

Between the 26th and 27th of April, parliamentarians and mayors from several African cities met with representatives from European Institutions during a one-week study programme on "Green Urban Development". In meetings with the European Commission and during an evening debate on "Green Urban Development Prospects in Africa", Jacquiline Amongin, Chair of the Committee on Environment of the African Union exchanged views with Jens Gieseke, MEP and Diederick Zambon, European Investment Bank.

On 25.04.2017 the Multinational Development Policy Dialogue of KAS and Reimer Böge MEP hosted the conference "Engaging Cuba in Dialogue". In the event organized in the European Parliament, representatives of the European Institutions and of the Cuban civil society discussed the future of EU-Cuba relations. Unfortunately, the Sakharov Prize Laureate Mrs. Berta Soler was not allowed by the Cuban authorities to attend the event. Ms. Rosa María Payá from Cuba Decide delivered the key-note speech. more…

On 11 April 2017 the MNED of KAS invited to the expert conference “Ahead of the Africa-EU Summit. Setting the course for a sustainable partnership”. The event was kicked off by a keynote of Guenter Nooke, the German Chancellor’s Personal Represenative for Africa (BMZ). The event successfully aimed at exploring new avenues for cooperation and partnership between Africa and the EU in the extraordinary context of the upcoming G20 Summit and the Africa-EU Summit this year. more…
