KAS launches Calender 2010 on Decentralisation in Namibia

The calender promotes decentralisation in Namibia and the empowering of the regions by providing information about the benefits of decentralisation, the role players and the legislative framework. The calendar also encourages the participation in the Regional Councils and Local Authorities Elections in 2010 and informs about the electoral process. KAS distributes free calendars via several institutioins and from its own offices at Sanlam Centre. more…

New President of KAS

Hans-Gert Pöttering elected new President of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS)

Hans-Gert Pöttering, former President of the European Parliament, has been elected new president of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS). At the same time, the current president, former prime minister Prof. Bernhard Vogel, was elected honorary chairman of the foundation. The change of office will take place on 1 January, 2010. Board members of KAS include (inter alia) Chancellor Dr. Angela Merkel and the Speaker of the Federal Parliament, Prof. Norbert Lammert.

Children's Rights in Namibia

On 20.11.1989 the UN General Assembly adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Child. States internationally acknowledged for the fist time their responsibility towards children´s rights. Exactly 20 years later the Ombdusman of Namibia launched a KAS sponsored book which reflects on the status and the development of the rights of children in Namibia. 20 Years of KAS in Namibia

20 Years ago KAS formally established its first office in Namibia. At a symposium with eminent representatives from politics and civil society the Speaker of the National Assembly, Dr. Theo-Ben Gurirab, Chief Justice Peter Shivute, the German Ambassador Egon Kochanke and the Member of the European Parliament, Michael Gahler, discussed the German-Namibian relations. The KAS representative thanked the KAS partners, friends and colleagues for the excellent co-operation during the past two decades.

KAS and Elections in Namibia

KAS launches Election Observer Handbook

The official handbook for election observers is out! Exactly one month prior to the elections KAS has - in partnership with the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) and the European Union - published the handbook for the Presidential and National Assembly Elections 2009. It will also be used for the Regional Councils and Local Authorities Elections 2010 and subsequent By-Elections. Free copies will be available at accreditation with the ECN and at the KAS offices in Windhoek as from 2 November. more…

KAS Survey on Elections and Politics

Attitudes of Namibians towards politics and elections

Ahead of the upcoming elections in Namibia the Konrad Adenauer Foundation conducted a survey about Namibians' attitudes towards politics and elections. The survey was conceptualized by Prof. E. Masunungure, Director of the Mass Public Opinion Institute in Harare and UNAM students conducted the interviews asking Namibians about the current political and economic situation, their hopes and fears for the elections and their advice to political parties. KAS in Angola

Launch of the White Book on the Elections in Angola

One year after the Parliamentary Elections in September 2008 the KAS - in partnership with its Angolan partner "Instituto de Desenvolvimento e Democracia (IDD)" - launches a white book on the context and the circumstances of these elections and provides information about the electoral irregularities. The book with all its critique wishes to be understood as a critical but constructive contribution to the further democratisation of Angola.

Human Rights in Africa

Justice Albie Sachs from the Constitutional Court of South Africa has launched the KAS publication on Human Rights in Africa. The book captures the status, development and transformation of the African human rights protection system. It elaborates on the legal instruments, institutions and mechanisms at its disposal. The articles summarise the achievements gained and challenges faced when it comes to respecting human rights in Africa, including aspects of effectiveness and implementation. more…

Monitoring Regional Integration in Southern Africa - Yearbook 2008

The SADC Tribunal President, Justice Pillay, launched the 2008 Yearbook in Windhoek. The launch was attended by the full bench of the SADC Tribunal, several judges from the Namibian bench as well as diplomats and members from international organisations. The Yearbook is a standard source of information on the status and the development of regional integration in SADC. It is available online at the KAS Namibia website.
