Her Excellency Mrs. Patience Goodluck Jonathan visits the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung in Berlin

Her Excellency Mrs. Patience Goodluck Jonathan, wife of the Nigerian President H. E. Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, visits on April 19, 2012 the KAS in Berlin. She accompanies her husband during a working visit from April 18-20 in Berlin, in which he will meet amongst others the Federal President, the Federal Chancellor and representatives of the business community. President Jonathan will give a speech on his Nigerian foreign policy to the DGAP on April 19. He will be accompanied by several Ministers.

Consultation by Klaus-Jürgen Hedrich great success

A warm welcome for K-J. Hedrich and vivid discussions with the Speakers of KAS partner parliaments, the anti-corruption agency ICPC, state ministers and representatives of the media and civil society have given numerous ideas for the strengthening of Nigeria’s democracy and the development of the country. The topic “Security and Development” appeared as a central theme throughout the conversations. The partners thanked the KAS, e.g. for the valuable trainings, which they appreciate a lot.

Prof. Dr. Wenzel in Vision Nigeria

The current situation in the euro zone

Prof. Dr. Wenzel gave visual explanations for complex developments, as they are occurring currently in the euro zone, and analyzed the effects of a common currency. But with his expertise as a professor of economics, the listeners also wanted to know something else from him, “How can it be that the economy of a country is growing while the population is getting poorer and poorer?” Therewith, the focus has been on both, the situation in the euro zone and the development of the Nigerian economy.

KAS Climate Conference great success

„Vision Nigeria Platform on Climate Change“ has been initiated on February 8

Scenarios have been discussed, which might be critical for the development of Nigeria: Will the north dry out? Are floods threatening the coastlines? Will there be internal migration due to the fast population growth? What are the implications of all this for socio-economic development and internal security? To worry is not enough. What can be done? The by participants newly founded “Vision Nigeria Platform on Climate Change” will systematically follow up on these topics in future.

German Ambassador meets Nigerian journalists in KAS office

The new German ambassador, H.E. Dorothee Janetzke-Wenzel meets Nigerian journalists to discuss German-Nigerian relations. Rather than one-sided assistance, she emphasizes cooperation and processes of mutual solution finding. With the come-together in the KAS office, the ambassador closes a journey organized by the German Embassy, in which journalists visited selected projects of development cooperation in Nigeria.

German Embassy opens journey with Nigerian journalists in KAS office

The Embassy invited Nigerian journalists to visit selected projects of development cooperation in Nigeria. Dr. Burkard Weth, Attaché for Press and Culture, and Attachée for Economy, Mrs. Sophia Armanski open the five-day journey in the KAS office. The three Foundations, KAS, FES, and Heinrich-Böll, as well as GIZ and Misereor give an overview of their organizations. The journalists have an opportunity for discussion.
