G8 AFGHANISTAN-PAKISTAN INITIATIVE
Berlin Delegation
The first step of the G8 project envisages inviting a delegation of 12 Parliamentarians from Pakistan and Afghanistan and 4 high ranking civil servants of the respective parliamentary administrations to Germany. The G8 project of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung mainly focuses on article 11 of the Joint Statement by the Foreign Ministers of the G8 and the Foreign Ministers of Afghanistan and Pakistan on the “G8 Afghanistan-Pakistan Initiative” which was launched on May 30, 2007.

Code of Ethical Conduct for Political Parties
This Round Table Paper (RTP) is one of the outcomes of a series of roundtable conferences arranged by Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) in Pakistan in 2008. The KAS is one of the political foundations of the Federal Republic of Germany. With its activities and projects, the Foundation provides an active and substantial contribution to international cooperation and understanding. The current RTP focuses on the need of a Code of Ethical Conduct for Political parties in Pakistan.

Informationstreffen in Peshawar
Am 14. Juni traf man in Peshawar den Reporter Yussufzai, um die politische Lage in FATA zu diskutieren. Ferner wurde eine Madrassa besucht und ein Gespräch mit dem Mufti geführt, um die realistische Perzeptionslage vor Ort zu erfahren. Nachhaltig gewann man die Erkenntnis, dass aus Sicht vieler religiöser Entscheidungsträger keine andere Rechtssprechung außer der islamischen von Bedeutung ist. Int. und Völkerrecht sind aus ihrer Sicht der Sharia unterzuordnen oder erst gar nicht systemimmanent.

Terrorism as a challenge for nation building – bilateral approach for solutions
Das Ziel des bilateralen KAS-Dialogforums ist die Etablierung einer Plattform, um nachhaltig politische Themenkomplexe zu diskutieren und aufzuarbeiten. Die dritte Veranstaltung diesen Jahres hatte den Arbeitstitel: „Terrorism as a challenge for nation building – bilateral approach for solutions“. An der Veranstaltungen nahmen der Terrorismusexperte Rolf Tophoven, Generäle, Vertreter der Regierungen, der Zivilgesellschaften, des Hochschulsektors und der Medien aus Afghanistan und Pakistan teil.

A case for the state funding of political parties in Pakistan

Roundtable zur politischen Lage in Pakistan
Am 22.04.2008 trafen sich die Vertreter der politischen Stiftungen in Islamabad im Büro oder Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) mit Vertretern des Bundesministeriums für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ) zwecks Informationsaustausches und Diskussion der politischen Lage. Frau Dr. Lipps und Herr Färber (BMZ) trafen Herrn Bochmann (Friedrich-Naumann-Stiftung), Herrn Richard Asbeck (Hanns-Seidel-Stiftung), Herrn Gregor Enste (Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung) und Dr. Khalatbari (KAS).

Final Report on National and Provincial Assembly Elections available
The EU Observer team released its final report on April 16, 2008. EU' s Chief Election Observer, Mr. Michael Gahler joined a roundtable at the KAS Office in Islamabad on the same day. He said the Mission would also submit its recommendations to the ECP that how to arrange future elections in more efficient and smooth manner. He also expressed some reservations that in some constituencies women were not allowed to exercise their right to vote in the elections by elders of these areas.
