Upgrading the bilateral relations

Civil Military relations seminar

Between 24th and 30th October 2011 a bilateral Civil-Military Seminar will be conducted in Berlin. The seminar intends to fit-in with the overarching context of the International Conferences on Afghanistan in Istanbul and Bonn this year. The interaction of parliamentarians and and senior members of the military of Germany and Pakistan will help to promote and develop a common understanding on the importance and possibilities of a regional approach to the stabilization of the region.

KAS Trilateral Summer School brings together Young Generations

38 young professionals from Afghanistan, Pakistan and Germany met in Islamabad to attend a Trilateral Summer School organized by the KAS. From June 12 to 19, the participants discussed regional challenges and especially focused on the three important topics security, stability and trade in the region. The participants belong to various sectors like politics, media, science and economy. The sessions were moderated by the Dean of the Trilateral Summer School Dr. Ross Masood Husain.

High-ranking Speakers at KAS Trilateral Summer School

The Summer School participants attended lectures delivered by highly renowned experts, including former Senators and Ambassadors, top government officials, academics and civil society representatives. Among the speakers were the former First Deputy Speaker of the Senate Sayed Hamed Gailani from Afghanistan, Ambassador (r) Dr. Gunter Mulack and Prof. Dr. Wilhelm Loewenstein from Germany as well as the former Prime Minister of Azad Jammu Kashmir Barrister Sultan Mehmood Chaudhary from Pakistan.

German Ambassador hosted Reception for KAS Trilateral Summer School

The German Ambassador to Pakistan, Dr. Michael Koch, was the Patron of the seven-day KAS Trilateral Summer School. He hosted a reception at his residence for the Summer School participants. During a speech, he thanked Dr. Babak Khalatbari, Representative of KAS, for pursuing reliably the aim to bring the people of the neighbouring states of Pakistan and Afghanistan closer to each other. The Ambassador pointed out that the two countries may find common grounds in their strife for democracy.

AFGHAN-PAKISTANI DIALOGUE FORUM

Participants of KAS Trilateral Summer School visited Lahore

The Trilateral Summer School included a two-day socio-political trip to Lahore. There the participants attended the closing ceremony at the Wagah border crossing between Pakistan and India. The ceremony is performed by the security forces of India (Border Security Force) and Pakistan (Pakistan Rangers) every evening before sunset since 1959. Moreover, the participants visited the Badshahi Mosque and the Red Fort, being probably the two most important historical landmarks of the city.

Participants of KAS Trilateral Summer School mapped out Future of Afghanistan and Pakistan

The Summer School ended with a scenario mapping workshop. The participants, divided in three groups, had to predict the future and construct a scenario for Afghanistan and Pakistan in 2015. They came up with a worst case, a best case and a trend scenario. “This Summer School was a great success in achieving a serious and in-depth discussion of the actual situation and the prospects for the future of Afghanistan and Pakistan”, concluded Ambassador (r) Dr. Gunter Mulack who conducted the workshop. more…

KAS organizes Training for Lawyers in Karachi

The President of the Sindh High Court Bar Association, Mr Anwar Mansoor Khan, delivered the opening speech on the one-day seminar on cyber laws taking place at the Mariott Hotel, Karachi on February 26th. He emphasized the importance of cyber laws for any present-day society and gave special thanks to the KAS and its partner, the “Society for Enforcement of Rule of Law”, for offering the seminar. Experts provided basic knowledge on cyber laws and on the functioning of the internet in general.

KAS holds first Seminar at Sindh Judicial Academy

More than 20 Judges participated in the one-day seminar on cyber laws, taking place in the Sindh Judicial Academy, Karachi on February 25th. The Judges, so far unaware of the legal aspects of the internet, listened with great interest to the experts' presentations. Justice Mushir Alam, Chief Justice Sindh High Court, stated that new technologies required new legal measures and gave special thanks to the KAS and its partner, the “Society for Enforcement of Rule of Law”, for their engagement.

SYMPOSIUM ON PAK-GERMAN RELATIONS 2011

German Parliamentarians visit Islamabad

Members of German Bundestag Dr. Andreas Schockenhoff, Dr. Christian Ruck and Roderich Kiesewetter followed the KAS' invitation to Islamabad. Several discussions with Pakistani parliamentarians as well as high ranking civil servants gave the German officials an insight into the current situation in Pakistan. During a symposium attended by 300 guests Dr. Schockenhoff stated that the well-being of the Pakistani people is critical for global stability and therefore of utmost importance for Germany.
