KAS Delegation visits Federal Chancellery
On May 5, 2010 the parliamentarians from Pakistan attended a meeting with Dr. Christoph Heusgen, Head of the Section Foreign, Security and Development Policy, in the Federal Chancellery. Not only the bilateral relations, but also the Pakistani-Afghan as well as the Pakistani-Indian relations were discussed. As an outcome of the meeting it was stated that Germany could play a mediator's role regarding the intensification of the Pakistani-Indian relations.
German South-Asian Parliamentary Friendship Group
On May 5, 2010 a lunch with the seven Parliamentarians from Pakistan took place at the Brandenburger Tor on invitation of the German South-Asian Parliamentary Friendship Group. The chairperson of the group, MP Petra Ernstberger (SPD), addressed a greeting to the Pakistani parliamentarians and welcomed the initiative. Moreover, MP Paul Lehrieder (CSU), Chairman of the German Pakistan Forum, and MP Jürgen Klimke (CDU) participated in the meeting.

Delegation from Pakistan visits the “Konrad-Adenauer-Haus”
On May 5, 2010 a meeting took place in the federal party headquarters of the CDU in Berlin with Bertil Wenger, Deputy Director International Office. The discussion focused mainly on the structure of the CDU as well as on the German party law and the affiliated party financing. Especially the German party law gained recognition by the parliamentarians from Pakistan and attracted their interest.
Parliamentarians from Pakistan visit the Bundesrat
On May 4, 2010 the delegation from Pakistan was received by Deputy Assistant Under-Secretary Josef Hoffmann in the German Bundesrat. He informed the parliamentarians on the composition and the rules of procedure of the Bundesrat, a legislative body that represents the sixteen federal states of Germany at the federal level. Besides the Federal President, the Bundestag, the Federal Government and the Federal Constitutional Court, the Bundesrat is one of the five constitutional bodies in Germany.
Meeting in the Ministry of Economics and Technology
On May 4, 2010 the delegation met with State Secretary Dr. Bernd Pfaffenbach in the Ministry of Economics and Technology. Main topic of conversation was the bilateral "Agreement on the Encouragement and Reciprocal Protection of Investments". The agreement was signed on December 1, 2009 by the Pakistani Minister for Investment, Senator Waqar Ahmad Khan, the German Minister for Economic Affairs and Technology, Rainer Brüderle, as well as State Secretary Peter Ammon of the German Foreign Office.
PARLIAMENTARY FRIENDSHIP GROUP
Parliamentarians from Pakistan visit Foreign Office
On May 4, 2010 an informational meeting of the delegation with Ambassador Rüdiger König, Deputy Special Envoy to Afghanistan and Pakistan, took place in the Foreign Office. The parliamentarians stated that it would be helpful if there was also a Pakistani Parliamentary Friendship Group on the German side. It was referred to the fact that Pakistan, having around 170 million inhabitants, is the fifth largest democracy worldwide and the second largest Muslim, democratic state after Indonesia.
Delegation from Pakistan visits German Bundestag
For the first time the newly established German Parliamentary Friendship Group of the Pakistani parliament participated in an information and dialogue seminar to Germany. The group encloses about 30 members and is based on an initiative of the KAS and the Pakistan Institute for Parliamentary Services. Seven representatives of this group visited the Bundestag on May 3, 2010. They were informed about the democratic system of the Federal Republic and met with German MPs for political discussions.
Parliamentarians meet with Managing Director of GTZ
In the Berlin office of the Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ), an informational meeting of the delegation from Pakistan with Dr. Bernd Eisenblätter, Chairman of the Managing Directors, took place on May 3, 2010. After a general information exchange it was agreed to keep the Friendship Group informed about the project work of the GTZ in Pakistan and to start a success-oriented dialogue.
Delegation meets Pakistan’s Ambassador to Germany in Berlin
On May 3, 2010 the Parliamentarians from Pakistan were invited to a lunch in the Capitol Club by the Embassy of Pakistan. The lunch was also attended by MP Elke Hoff and Ambassador (r.) Fritjof of Nordenskjöld. Pakistan’s Ambassador to Germany, H. E. Shahid Kamal, welcomed the delegation as well as the guests and highlighted the significance of the Friendship Group for the bilateral relations. The speaker of the group, MNA Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, introduced the participants and the intended goals.
Parliamentarians from Pakistan visit Germany on Invitation by KAS
Seven parliamentarians from Pakistan who are members of the German Parliamentary Friendship Group visited Germany’s capital Berlin on invitation by KAS. Dr. Stefan Friedrich, Head Team Asia at the Main Division International Cooperation of KAS, welcomed the guests from Pakistan on May 3, 2010. The meeting was followed by a presentation on the German party system by Dr. Karsten Grabow, Project Consultant International Cooperation Parties and Parliaments.
