Youth Conference offers Platform for Discussions

On the third and last day of the CLC the audience was further informed on both of the central topics, leadership and regional cooperation. Besides, the participants used the opportunity to exchange views and to diminish existing prejudices. The Pakistani television broadcasting station Aaj TV emitted a live show of the conference in which participants from different countries discussed regional cooperation in front of running cameras.

Young Generation should become Ambassador for the International Understanding

The second day of the CLC started with a speech of Prof. Dr. Abdul Rahman Ashraf, adviser to the President of Afghanistan. He emphasized the need of a good neighborhood between Pakistan and Afghanistan and called upon the participants to become ambassadors for the international understanding. The speech of the Pakistani minister for science and technology, Muhammad Azam Khan Swati, stressed the important role of the young generation for the stabilization of the bilateral relations as well.

Afghan Students participate in Youth Conference

On April 23, 2010 about 500 young people convened in Islamabad to attend the 3-day Creative Leaders' Conference (CLC) on Regional Cooperation. The conference had been jointly organized by the School of Universal Leadership and the KAS. Initiator of the CLC is Senator (R) Akram Zaki. The participants had been predominantly from Pakistan, but also from Nigeria, Indonesia and Yemen. 40 Afghan students and lecturers of the universities of Kabul and Herat invited by the KAS participated as well.

"RULE OF LAW" PROGRAM

Second Seminar on "Cyber Laws"

On April 14, 2010 the second seminar of the "Rule of Law" program recently implemented by KAS took place. Approximately 20 senior judges from different parts of Pakistan attended the seminar in Islamabad which was carried out in cooperation with the Cyber Law Society of Pakistan. The training was held by renowned experts in the Federal Judicial Academy. Moreover, seminars are planned in the fields of “Environmental Law” and “Human Trafficking”.

"RULE OF LAW" PROGRAM

Successful Seminar on "Cyber Laws"

On March 20, 2010 the "Rule of Law" program of the KAS started with a seminar on "Cyber Laws". 90 lawyers participated in the seminar in Islamabad which was carried out in cooperation with the Cyber Law Society of Pakistan. Chief guest was the Deputy Attorney General of Pakistan, Shah Khawar. In April a training will take place on the same subject for judges. Moreover, seminars are planned in the fields of “Environmental Law” and “Human Trafficking”.

Roundtable on the Economic Situation in Pakistan

Among other countries, Pakistan has been largely effected by the worldwide recession. In autumn 2008, a looming national bankruptcy was barely averted with the aid of the IMF. On March 11, 2010 ten experts – professors, analysts, bankers, entrepreneurs and journalists – looked into the impacts of the financial crisis on the Pakistani economy and identified not only problems but also solutions. In this context, the principle of the social market economy was also discussed.

Welcome Reception for the Delegation from Pakistan in Kabul

On February 22, 2010 a four-day information and dialogue seminar started for 15 Pakistani scientists, think tankers and journalists in Kabul. The seminar was opened with a welcome reception in the Serena Hotel. About 60 Afghan political decision makers, diplomats, research scholars and journalists had been invited. The event provided the delegation and the guests a first opportunity to exchange views on the bilateral relations of the neighbouring states.

Delegation from Pakistan visits Kabul University

On February 23, 2010 the delegation visited the Kabul University and the National Center for Policy Research. A campus tour was followed by a reception hosted by the Chancellor and a lecture on Afghan-Pakistani relations attended by around 150 students. Afterwards a roundtable discussion with the Chancellor, his deputy as well as representatives of the Afghan Ministry of Higher Education took place. The universities of Kabul and Peshawar agreed to co-operate more intensely in future.

Pakistani Ambassador meets Delegation from Pakistan in Kabul

On February 23, 2010 the members of the delegation met with the Ambassador of Pakistan to Afghanistan, Mr. Mohammad Sadiq, in the afternoon. They discussed the bilateral relations between the neighbouring states in the residence of the Ambassador. The Ambassador stressed that the Afghan-Pakistani relations had recently improved considerably. Moreover, the trade between both countries has clearly increased.

Delegation from Pakistan meets representatives of Afghan Ministry of Foreign Affairs

In the evening of February 23, 2010 the members of the delegation participated in a working dinner with representatives of the Afghan Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Serena Hotel, Kabul. The conversation focused on the bilateral relations between the neighbouring states. Among other things, different approaches to further intensify the Afghan-Pakistani dialogue were discussed.
