Federal Minister Heidemarie Wieczorek-Zeul in Pakistan
The Federal Minister is on her 3 day visit to Pakistan. Prior to departure she explained: "I want to inform myself about the present situation in the country. Pakistan is of great importance for stability of the whole region. With our development cooperation we try, especially in difficult times, to contribute to the country's stabilization. The Federal Minister will meet amongst others the representatives of political foundations in Islamabad.
G8 Afghanistan Pakistan Initiative
Dr. Citha Maaß, working for the "Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik", will be in Pakistan the following days to give a lecture on the role of the civil society in the context of a democratic system. In reference to the science-based discussion, the term civil society has presently two meanings. On the one hand it describes a part of society, which rose in between governmental, economic and private sphere, or on the other hand: between government, market and Family.
Pakistan Art 2009
The idea is based on the awareness, that democracy is not only political art, but can also be portrayed. The project supports the modern Pakistani art- and cartoon scene, since Pakistan is just about to go through a considerable social alteration and experiences a process of democratisation. The two most famous cartoonists of Pakistan, Sabit Nazar and Fauzia Minallah, agreed to support the project beginning in June 2009.
Pakistan Institute for Parliamentary Services (PIPS)
The 9. March 2009 the German Ambassador, Dr. Michael Koch, the press and economic secretary, Dr. Gregor Schotten, the executive director of PIPS, Khan Ahmed Goraya and the resident representative of the KAS, Dr. Babak Khalatbari, held a joint meeting in Islamabad to talk about future opportunities for collaboration. PIPS kindly asked the KAS in February 2009 to look-over a joint project regarding the education of Pakistani parliamentary administration as well as parliamentary committee.
FIRST GERMAN-PAKISTANI SPRING FESTIVAL
The first German-Pakistani Spring festival was held on February 28 in Lahore. The venue for the event was a Farm House outside Lahore main city. The lawns were spacious enough to provide separate places to the participating organizations to display their items for the road show. SOCIAL MARKET ECONOMY

Since 2008 Pakistan deals with the topic social market economy. The Anglophone dictionary should not just be considered as a reference book but also as a guide and help to generate ideas. On the one hand it is aimed at explaining the economic and sociopolitical conception of the social market economy. On the other hand it pursues the plan of making the social market economy a more important topic in the politico-economic debate of the Pakistani civil society.
German-Pakistani spring festival in Lahore
Despite the difficult domestic events the first German-Pakistani spring festival took place in Lahore on 18th February 2009. The event has been organized by the German Embassy - Islamabad in association with German organisations and companies. Stands and informational literature called attention for their activity and products. The photo shows Ambassador Dr. Michael Koch, together with the Team of the Pakistan office of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung.
South and Central Asia: Building Political and Economic Linkages
Along with the foreign minister of Pakistan, Mr. Makhdoom Qureshi, 23 speakers from 12 different nations accepted the invitation of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung & Institute of Regional Studies to contribute to the seminar "Building Political and Economic linkages between South and Central Asia" held in Islamabad on 20-21 October 2008. At the KAS-Forum 2009 selected Senators, Members of the Parliament and National Assembly, ministers, diplomats, journalists and scientists took part. Further the participants of the September 2008 Berlin-delegation received a memento of German-Pakistani-Afghan Friendship. Also the German ambassador Dr. Koch participated.
After the turbulent year of 2008, elections in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Indian will follow up in 2009. The situation in 2009 might go to become a political challenge for this region. In this context the KAS wants to present members of parliament from Pakistan and Afghanistan the forthcoming project work of the foundation (related to the G8 Afghanistan-Pakistan Initiative) and discuss approaches how to improve the contact and action to India.
