Anniversaries of Unification and Freedom

Position of points for the future.

2009 are the year of several important anniversaries of younger German history: 60 years “Basic Constitutional Law”, 20 years fall of the Berlin Wall and therein included 40 years of German division. Already in 2008 we have the anniversaries of the monetary reform and the first meeting of the “Parlamentarischer Rat” in 1948, which worked on Germany Constitutional Law. In 2010 we will be able to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the German Reunification. Al these anniversaries have a specific commonness: Without brave decisions of Christdemocrates like Konrad Adenauer, Ludwig Erhard and Helmut Kohl, to name only some of the brave politicians and leaders, German history would not choose the way it chooses.

The Konrad-Adenauer Foundation will attend these anniversaries mindfully. We want to clarify, that the loose of confidence in politics can only be faced by a revival of values, which made the building up and modernisation of Christian democracies possible. Christian-occidental traditions, the basics of catholic social studies and Protestant ethics and the regulative fundament of the concept of social market-economy, are still meaningful and needed in our times, to gave the people of our country an orientation, to convince them to support necessary social reforms and arrangements of modernisation. The timeliness and validity of a policy, which based on Christian values, must be again and again justified and animated. This will be the key to a return of self-confidence and the belief in the ability of Germany to implement the necessary reforms.
