Instability, insecurity, and political divisions have been prevailing in Libya for almost six years. Libya’s successive governments have failed to address the population’s needs. As a result, many Libyans turned towards local governments. The report discusses the role of these local authorities for the stabilization of Libya.
From 30-31 January 2017 a delegation of experts from the German Bundestag, the government and think tanks came to Tunis for a dialogue program on the current situation in Libya and its repercussions on migration flows in the Mediterranean.
The KAS Regional Office South Mediterranean in cooperation with Madrid-based think tank Stractegia organized a conference on “State legitimacy and local governance in Libya” to contribute to the understanding of local dynamics in Libya.
