"Think local, act global." - Mayor Dato' Maimunah Mohd Sharif, inspiring woman leader and Mayor of Penang Seberang Perai

KASYP 2017-2018 fellows look forward to meeting Dato' Maimunah in their upcoming programme in Penang, among other active political stakeholders in the arena of local governance and development. Mayor Maimunah declared this controversial line on "understanding the local context first" during the 2016 UN gathering on Sustainable Cities in New York. KASYP fellows will discuss this topic along with the role of youth in local politics with the youngest State Minister in Penang, Malaysia - Hon. Dr Afif Baharadin. Expert resource persons have also been invited to discuss gaps and opportunities in development leadership - like disaster risk management for example.
