KAS is a German political foundation, promoting world-wide Democracy, the Rule of Law, Human Rights and Social Market Economy. KAS bears the name of Konrad Adenauer, the first post-war Chancellor of Germany. Starting in Ghana in 1966, KAS supports socio-political reforms as well as NEPAD, the parliament as an institution of decision-making, popular participation in the political process, the promotion of the rule of law as well as the integration of traditional structures into the modern state. »

Promoting decentraised decision making
The Institute of Local Government Studies (ILGS), in collaboration with KAS, orgainsed a stakeholder w/shop for recognised political parties to contribute towards the acceleration of decentralising Government. Hon. Joseph Y. Chireh, the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, said the review process is to rekindle popular interest in local governance and local level democracy for various sections of the population and to ensure efficient and sustainable local level development. Advocacy for Social Market Economy
The Private Enterprise Foundation (PEF) in collaboration with KAS organised a day’s seminar for members of relevant Parliamentary committees to discuss how their functions can be enhanced to promote good corporate governance in Ghana. PEF President, Mr Asare Akuffo, highlighted the challenges the private sector faces, among others poor institutional and regulatory frameworks, poor infrastructure, poor public services delivery and enduring perception of corruption in the public service. German Chancellor's visit to the USA
Rarely a foreign head of state or head of government will be given the honour to deliver a speech before both houses of the U.S. Congress (Senate and House). 2009 Nobel Literature Prize
The 2009 Nobel Prize Winner won 2004 the Literture Prize of KAS
The Nobel Prize 2009 goes to the Romanian-born German writer Hertha Müller "who, with the concentration of poetry and the frankness of prose, depicts the landscape of the dispossessed". Because of her political commitment as a chronicler of everyday life in a dictatorship, her literature had protested against prescribed thinking and disabling speech. It was in the light of this, that the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung had awared her already in 2004 its Literature Prize. (Oct. 8, 2009)

Africa Media Leadership Conference 2009
The 8th edition of the KAS-SPI Africa Media Leadership Conference 2009 brought together African media bosses for their annual summit from 4th to 7th October, in Accra, to examine how they can harness and “monetise” the continent’s growing youthful audiences who are heavily reliant on digital media channels as their sources of news, information and entertainment. Private Sector and Social Market Economy
The Private Enterprise Foundation (PEF) with the support of KAS has organized a retreat for members of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Trade and selected private sector actors. The New NDC Government, represented by Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, has assured that for them like for the previous government, the Private Sector is key to economic growth in the country.
