Länderbericht Uganda
Vom 18. bis 21. Februar 2010 fand der Parteitag der Democratic Party (DP) in Mbale, Uganda statt. Über 1.000 Delegierte wählten auf der sogenannten National Delegates Conference die neue Führungsmannschaft der Partei. Als Parteipräsident wurde Norbert Mao gewählt. Im Vorfeld waren die Streitigkeiten zwischen verschiedenen Flügeln innerhalb der Partei derart eskaliert, dass eine der vordringlichen Aufgaben der neuen Parteiführung nun sein wird, neuen Zusammenhalt herzustellen. DP Delegates Conference
Democratic Party Holds Successful Delegates Conference
The Democratic Party successfully held its delegates conference, Feb 18th – 21st at Mt. Elgon Hotel, Mbale. As the main agenda, the meeting culminated in the election of a new party leadership led by Mr. Norbert Mao who was elected Party President and therefore the party’s flag bearer in the 2011 general elections. This event is remarkably a milestone in rebuilding Uganda’s oldest party and is also in many ways expected to contribute generally towards strengthening Uganda’s multi-party politic (Feb. 22, 2010)

Consultations of Local Stakeholders
The consultative workshops brought together a group of potential assessors and major stakeholders in the district (district authorities, political parties, religious leaders) to discuss the draft assessment index developed by KAS and UMDF with the help of their consultant Dr. Yasin Olum. The consultations, which will also continue in the other five districts selected for the EU-funded project, shall ensure the development of a suitable and well-accepted assessment framework. New intern
Marlen Fiedler starts internship at the KAS Office in Uganda
Marlen Fiedler, our new intern, just arrived in Kampala. After having successfully completed her Master in Business Administration Finance she will support the KAS Office Uganda for the next three months. Some years ago, she did humanitarian work in Mukono, Uganda. An additional program in Development Studies has further increased her interest in political and economic issues in Sub-Saharan Africa. The internship will provide her with practical knowledge and expertise in development cooperation. (Feb. 10, 2010)

Aus KAS-Auslandsinformationen
April 2010 soll es so weit sein: im Sudan, einschließlich der semi-autonomen Region Südsudan, sind die Wähler aufgerufen, ihren Stimmzettel bei den Präsidentschafts- und Parlamentswahlen abzugeben. 2011 soll dann auf Grundlage des 2005 geschlossenen Friedensabkommens in einem Referendum über den Status des Südsudans abgestimmt werden. Die politische Debatte dreht sich um Szenarien vor und nach dem Referendum, die von der Rückkehr zum Krieg bis zur friedlichen Sezession des Südsudans reichen. (Jan. 28, 2010) »

Movie Premiere
The KAS Uganda office has produced a movie on democracy and democratic process. The film titled “Speak Out” is a production of Great Lakes Film Production for Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung. Featuring Ugandan actors, the one hour highly entertaining and educative drama highlights among others issues democratic practice, challenges of corruption, mob justice, ethinic tentions and rivalry. The movie is premiering on Thursday 21, January at Theatre Labonita in city centre Kampala. All are invited. (Jan. 13, 2010) »
