In ihrer Rede vor dem Kongreß in Washington hat Angela Merkel Anfang November 2009 ausgeführt, dass dieses Datum den glücklichen Endpunkt einer Epoche der deutschen Geschichte bildet, die von der Revolution 1918 über die Reichspogromnacht bis hin zum Mauerfall reicht.
