Ken-Marti Vaher neuer Generalsekretär von IRL
Kurz nach seiner Bestätigung als IRL-Vorsitzender hat sich Mart Laar einen neuen Generalsekretär an seine Seite geholt. Der 35jährige Parlamentsabgeordnete Ken-Marti Vaher löst nach drei Jahren Margus Tsahkna ab. Zuletzt kandidierte Tsahkna erfolglos um den stellvertretenden Parteivorsitz. Er wird dem Vorstand von IRL dennoch weiterhin als politischer Berater zur Verfügung stehen. Vaher wird nun in den kommenden zwölf Monaten seine Partei auf die Parlamentswahl im März 2011 vorbereiten. (Mar. 13, 2010)

Mart Laar - Chairman of IRL
As expected with the vast majority of votes Mart Laar was elected as Chairman at the party congress of KAS-partner party Isamaaliit/Res Publica (IRL) last weekend. The Ministers Juhan Parts and Tõnis Lukas as well as the Speaker of the Parliament Ene Ergma were elected as substitute chairpersons of the party. Mart Laar reinforced the willingnes of his party to lead the minority government to parliamentary elections 2011. Moreower he told, he is willing to stay in government for the next session. Prof. Dr. Hans-Gert Pöttering new Chairman of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung
On December 4, 2009 the members of the foundation elected former President of the European Parliament Prof. Dr. Hans-Gert Pöttering, MEP, to the new Chairman of the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung. Today Mr. Pöttering oficially takes the lead of KAS and becomes successor of the former longtime Chairman Prof. Dr. Bernhard Vogel, who will continue to support the KAS as honorary Chairman. Local election 2009
Center Party - Winner at Local Elections in Estonia
The Center prty led by Mayor of Tallinn and former Prime Minister Edgar Savisaar came as winner out of Local Elections on October 18, with 31,5%. Both governing parties, the Reform party and IRL, were left behind with the result of 16,7% and 13,9%. The Center party will further have the majority in the city council of Tallinn. There was 60,3% turn-out (2005: 47%). (Oct. 19, 2009)

The German Culture Institute in Tartu and the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung cordially invite to the preview of the Academy Award winner "The Lives of Others". The contemporary witness Mr. Karsten Dümmel will give the introduction to the film. Mr. Dümmel was founding father of work group „Kunst und Kirche“ in GDR, which was split and forbidden by State Security. On August 22./23. an 24 hour marathon from Tallinn via Riga to Vilnius will take place. With 678km long marathon the organizers want to recall of the "Baltic Way", which took place twenty years ago and gathered round 2 Million people from Tallinn via Riga to Vilnius in order to draw the world's attention to the destini af Baltic countries. The "Baltic Way" meant the beginning of the end of the Sowjet occupation era of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania and led to independence in 1991. (Aug. 15, 2009) »
