Private Sector and Social Market Economy
The Private Enterprise Foundation (PEF) with the support of KAS has organized a retreat for members of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Trade and selected private sector actors. The New NDC Government, represented by Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, has assured that for them like for the previous government, the Private Sector is key to economic growth in the country. Obama Visit to Ghana 10 - 11 July 2009
Whereas a great number of people, especially Ghanaians, welcomed the speech US President delivered in Ghana, Africa wide his words met with anger and disappointment. Being "a son of the soil", expectations had been particularly high. Obama Visit to Ghana 11 - 12 July 2009
President Obama's speech Saturday, 11 July before the Ghanain Parliament is more or less a blueprint of what the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung tries to achieve with its programme worldwide: Good Governance, rule of the law, freedom of speech, fight against corruption etc. However, the speech met not only with widespread approval, but a number of observers and analysts criticised that Obama did not appreciate enough the damage the slave trade and colonial exploitation did to the African continent. Private Sector Support
The Private Enterprise Foundation (PEF) with the support of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) has organised a retreat for members of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Agriculture and selected private sector actors in the agricultural sector. During the proceedings, PEF proposed the establishment of an Agriculture Fund for accelerated economic growth. Agriculture is the single largest contributor to GDP, but is operating at only about 20 per cent capacity. (July 7, 2009) »

Support of Social Market Economy
KAS to support John Kufuor Foundation for Leadership & Social Market Economy
Today the KAS ResRep, accompanied by Snr. Project Manager, I. Owusu-Mensah, paid a visit to ex-President, H.E. John A. Kufuor, to discuss the possible support by KAS of a John Kufuor Foundation for Leadership & Social Market Economy. Mr. Kufuor was well aware of the father of the Social Market Economy, Prof. Ludwig Erhard, Economy Minister under Konrad Adenauer in the 1950th and 60th in then West Germany. He emphasised his vision to contribute to a socially just Ghana by way of his Foundation. (Apr. 15, 2009)

Symposium on Nation-Building
This is what Prof. Jonah told a Symposium on Nation-Building, organised by KAS. He added that parties employ ethnicity as a political tool to enhance their fortunes, and that this is getting worse by each election. The Symposium was opened by Hon. H. Iddrissu, Minister of Communication, and chaired by Mrs. Joyce Aryee, CEO Ghana Chamber of Mines. The German Ambassador to Ghana, Dr. M. Haas, spoke on the problems Germany is still facing 20 years after reunification vis-à-vis nation-building. (Mar. 12, 2009) »

Democracy and Development
The Tamale Ecclesiastical Province Pastoral Conference (TEPPCON), together with KAS, organised a Think Tank meeting to develop an action plan for Ghana's three northern regions towards poverty alleviation. Present were development-oriented individuals, among them the Pro-VC of the Univ. of Development Studies (UDS), Tamale, Professor D. Millar. “The undervaluing and underutilisation of the indigenous knowledge of our local people, limits sustainability of the traditional systems,” he stressed. (Mar. 5, 2009) »

Parlaments- & Präsidentschaftswahlen 08
Zum 5. Mal seit 1992 (Beginn 4. Republik) hat Ghana demokratische Wahlen durchgeführt, die friedlich und transparent verliefen. Zum 2. Mal führte das Wählervotum zu einem friedlichen Machtwechsel. Oppositionskandidat Atta Mills (NDC) gewann mit knappen 50,23%. Der Regierungskandidat Nana Akufo-Addo (NPP) unterlag also sehr knapp! Die NPP verlor auch ihre absolute Parlamentsmehrheit. General Elections December 2008
KAS with the Tamale Ecclesiastical Province Pastoral Conference (TEPPCON) organised a workshop on: "Promoting Peaceful Election 2008: The Role of Responsible Leaders" in Tamale. The participants included representatives of political parties, youth leaders, women organisations, Institute of Local Government, National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) and the Electoral Commission (EC). General Elections December 2008
Ghanaian women have been urged to increase their involvement in the country's quest for peaceful presidential and parliamentary elections. The message was delivered at a workshop for traditional women leaders in the Brong Ahafo Region, by the Programme Manager of KAS, Mr. Isaac Owusu-Mensah. He further noted that it was important to stress the role of women in the electoral process because they would be directly affected by the outcome of the electoral process, either negatively or positively.
