Partners

As a regional media project, we seek to cooperate with partners who work throughout the sub-Sahara region or whose vision and activities are not restricted to their country of origin. This list does not reflect a definitive list of all partners with whom the KAS works or has worked.

Rhodes University's Department of Journalism and Media Studies is Africa's biggest and oldest school of journalism. It teaches six degrees and numerous short courses, and covers the whole range of media production areas (TV through to print and Web) as well as media studies. The Department is also the heart of two continent-wide networks - the Africa Economics Editors Forum, and the Highway Africa conference. It also owns a newspaper, the Grocott's Mail, and engages in several regular media production projects during the various festivals and conferences that take place in the city of Grahamstown where the department is based. »

Established in 2002, the Sol Plaatje Media Leadership Institute is located within Rhodes University's Department of Journalism and Media Studies. It is a pioneering initiative that will provide courses for present and future media leaders to improve their editorial and business skills. The Institute will offer high-level editorial and business management courses that will attract participants from South Africa as well as the continent. »

The Investigative Journalism Workshop (IJW) was established in 2005 as part of the Journalism Programme of the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg. The IJW collaborates with several international Partners, to support investigative Journalism in South Africa’s young democracy and to establish professional standards. The IJW awards the Taco Kuiper Journalism Award and organizes the annual Power Reporting Conference. »

Law School, University of the Witwatersrand. The Institute’s purpose is to provide a focus for research, policy development and analysis, and advanced teaching in those areas of the law that connect South Africa to the world economy. »

The Forum for African Investigative Reporters (FAIR) is an association of investigative journalists in Africa. The Forum was established in 2003 by 15 journalists from six African countries. FAIR provides networks and contacts for journalists, supports cross-border partnerships in research and facilitates investigations through ithe exchange of information »

The Media Institute of Southern Africa is a non-governmental organisation with members in 11 of the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) countries. They promote media diversity, pluralism, self-sufficiency and independence. »

The Southern Africa Media Training Trust NSJ helps to develop free and independent media in Southern Africa. It offers wide ranging, tailor-made training and consulting services. Each of its courses and services is specially designed to respond to specific needs and requests from the media and development sectors. »

The Centre for Investigative Journalism (CIJ) is a registered charity that trains Journalists as well as providing information for the public to give them an understanding of the importance of investigative journalism. The Centre runs annual international summer schools. »
