Training for judges in Albania

Justice must be seen to be done

KAS RLPSEE and The European Centre in Albania organized a training for judges on "Independence and impartiality of the Judiciary", which took place on the 20th of October in Tirana. Mr. Idlir Peci, human rights expert, and Prof. Vincent Coussirat-Coustère from France, delivered presentations on ECtHR standards, assisting the judges acquire a better understanding and knowledge of the European standards related to Article 6 of the ECHR. more…

Regional Training in Croatia

Training for judges from South East Europe in the field of ethics

At the opening of the seminar “Ethics in the judiciary of South-East European countries”, organized in cooperation with the Judicial Academy in Zagreb, Mr. Hartmut Rank, director of KAS RLP SEE, welcomed 25 judges from Croatia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Macedonia. H.E. Thomas Schultze, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Croatia, and Dr. Michael Lange, director of the KAS-Bureau in Croatia, emphasized as guest speakers the importance of ethics in the judiciary. more…

The International Criminal Court (ICC) was created in 2002 as an instrument against atrocities “that have outraged the conscience of mankind”. More than 120 states have joined since then. The global criminal court continues, nonetheless, to struggle for acceptance. The former MEP and expert on South East Europe, Doris Pack, held a lecture at this year's International Summer School Sarajevo on the topic of “The role of EU conditionality in transformation processes". During the subsequent discussion, which was moderated by Thorsten Geissler, director of the RLP SEE, the former European politician, who has a long-standing expertise about the region, answered numerous questions of the participants of the ISSS 2017.

Opening of the International Summer School Sarajevo 2017

Under the title ”Transitional Justice as a Response to Emerging Challenge in South-East Europe”, the 11th International Summer School Sarajevo opened on July 19 with the speeches of Karsten Dümmel, director of KAS Bosnia and Herzegovina office and of Rifat Skrijelj, the rector of the Sarajevo University. Until July 28, 25 students and graduates will take part in workshops, lectures and study visits to relevant institutions.

Human rights workshop

European Convention on Human Rights and Its Mechanisms in Combination with the Presentation of Case-Law Issues

On the 19th and 25th of May, KAS RSPSOE and Centre for Media Law held in Banja Luka and Mostar, Bosnia Herzegovina, two of the three workshops designed for students in the „European Convention on Human Rights and Its Mechanisms in Combination with the Presentation of Case-Law Issues” programme. The project tackle the submission of applications, Court proceedings and implementation of Court's rulings. The events ended by discussion caselaw and organizing a mock trial.

The Timiș Anticoruption Academy, first edition

he Timiș Anticoruption Academy took place in Timișoara, 25 - 28 May and brought together professionals from Timiș, Arad and Caraș - Severin. During the programme, the participants learned about ethics and organizational culture, change management and institutional instruments to prevent and fight corruption. By identifying their shared values and the current needs of our society, they ended up forming teams that aim at fighting against corruption.
