Women’s rights in traditional societies: The South African example

In a captivating account of the situation of women in South Africa’s KwaZulu-Natal region Sizani Ngubane, founder of the Rural Women’s Movement (RWM), shared her field work experiences. On invitation of the KAS Regional-Program Gulf-States Mrs. Ngubane spoke yesterday in Abu Dhabi to representatives of institutions that are engaged in development work. Journalism Training continued

Business Journalism - a genre of its own

“Business Journalism” was the topic of a highly specialized seminar that continued the KAS training program for Emirati junior journalists. In addition to an introduction into the basics of Business Journalism the seminar’s main goal was to provide the participants with practical work experience. Visits to regional companies, presentations by commercial experts as well as research in local shopping malls provided ample material for articles. more…

On invitation of the Regional Program Gulf-States of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Mr. Burkhard Balz, German Member of the European Parliament and Member of the Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee, spoke at a seminar on ‘European Union’s Current Innovations in Financial Market Policy’at INSEAD’s Abu Dhabi campus. KAS continues training courses for junior journalists

With the start of its 2. training course on "The Basics of Journalistm", the KAS Regional Program Gulf-States is continuing and intensifying its efforts to promote good journalistic work in the UAE. 10 junior journalists from Ras-Al-Khaimah, Fujairah, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi successfully started the course today, which focuses on putting theory into practice. The course is part of a newly established seminar series, which KAs has organized with the UAE National Media Council (NMC)in Abu Dhabi.

Journalist Seminar in UAE successful

KAS Regional Program Gulf-States and National Media Council of Abu Dhabi train Emirati Journalists

Nine Emirati journalists successfully completed the first journalism training course offered by KAS Regional Program Gulf-States and the National Media Council (NMC) in Abu Dhabi. During the week-long intense course the participants reviewed the basic tools of good journalistic work and reemphasized the importance of complying with these. During the second half of the course the journalist put theory to practice and ventured out to research a news story as well as a topic for a longer reportage. more…

Exhibition on Life in East Germany before and after the fall of the Berlin Wall inaugurated in Kuwait

In context of the opening of the exhibition "The ideal world of dictatorship" on the Fall of the Berlin Wall at the American University in Kuwait (AUK), the Gulf Studies Center of AUK hosted a panel discussion titled "The Fall of the Berlin Wall: A Retrospective of Life in Germany Before & After 1990" on December 20th, 2010. Thomas Birringer, Regional Representative to the Gulf-States represented the KAS. He explained the effects of the Berlin Wall on people in both parts of Germany. more…

First KAS Journalists Course off to a good start

The first Journalists Academy for young Emirati journalists organized by the KAS-Regional Program Gulf-States in cooperation with the UAE National Media Council (NMC) in Abu Dhabi kicked-off successfully. Starting the academy KAS-Coach Jochen Markett and Dr. Mohamed Ayish of the NMC gave the 12 participants an introduction into journalistic writing and research. This and the following courses aim to strengthen the quality of Emirati journalism.
