Justicia Foundation

JUSTICIA Foundation for Development and Human Rights is a nonprofit Lebanese civil society organization. It was founded by jurists and civil society activists who believe in democratic values, human rights, the rule of law, and equal opportunity for all. Since 2008 they have contributed to the coordination and redrafting of the National Human Rights Action Plan for Lebanon for the Parliament with the support of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights.

Conseil Constitutionnel Libanais

The Constitutional Council is among the most recent bodies that came to light in 1993 following the 1989 Taif Agreement. It is is a constitutional body of judicial nature and has a jurisdiction limited to reviewing the constitutionality of laws and adjudicating on challenges to the results of parliamentary and presidential elections. Most importantly, the Council is independent from the judiciary. The Constitutional Council and KAS have established a dialogue between politicians and the judiciary. A conference in November 2014 will discuss individual legal protection through constitutions and constitutional courts in the Arab world.

Conseil Supérieur de la Magistrature Libanais (CSM)

The Lebanese Supreme Council of Magistracy oversees the independence of the judiciary and the lawful actions of the judicial authorities such as the courts, the judges and state attourneys. As part of the regional rule of law program, the Konrad-Adenauer-Foundation has organized, in cooperation with the CSM, a seminar on "performance indicators and evaluation of judges and the courts" in May 2014.

The Research Unit for International Law, International Jurisdiction and Comparative Constitutional Law of the Law Faculty of Tunis was created in 1992. It is devoted to current legal issues of International Public Law. The legal and political dimensions of the upheavals in Tunisia and in the Arab world are reflected in the theme selection of local and international debates, scientific contributions and seminars for PhD and graduate students. The Research Center promotes intensive examination of the rule of law and the international comparison of constitutional law by young academics. In cooperation with the Rule of Law Program Middle East / North Africa by Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, the URDIJIDCC held a conference on the new constitutions in Tunisia, Morocco and Egypt, which resulted in a common published work.
